FRANKFORT, Ky. - Steve Nunn said nothing in court. His glum, unshaven face spoke volumes. The politician who had lived a life of privilege hobnobbing with Kentucky's political elite wasn't at all pleased with the Fayette County jail where he is being held on a murder charge for allegedly gunning down his ex-girlfriend. Nunn, heir to one of the most famous names in Kentucky politics, wore a drab prison jumpsuit and a frown as his lawyer entered a not guilty plea on his behalf and asked for his release on bond.

Nunn saga filled with irony, high drama By Ryan Alessi, Bill Estep and Ashlee Clark - ralessi@... The Feb. 17 fight that finally ended the stormy relationship between Amanda Ross and Steve Nunn started after Nunn blew off Ross' suggestion to go out for chicken wings the next night. The two exchanged blows, which was the fifth time Nunn had been violent toward her, Ross told Fayette Family Court Judge Tim Philpot in a March 4 court hearing. A sullen Nunn, who was trying to save his high-ranking state job, promised Philpot he wouldn't harm Ross. "We had a tumultuous...

  • Fletcher Can Stay On Ballot

The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled Wednesday Republican Ernie Fletcher can remain on the May primary ballot. Candidate Steve Nunn's running mate -- Bob Heleringer -- challenged the legality of Fletcher's candidacy, saying the ticket was invalid when Fletcher picked an ineligible running mate, Hunter Bates. A judge ruled Bates did not meet residency requirements. But other judges ruled the Fletcher candidacy was still legal. The Kentucky Supreme Court decision Wednesday affirms those rulings. In addition to Nunn, Fletcher faces former Jefferson County judge-executive Rebecca Jackson and State Senator Virgil Moore in the May 20th primary.

So Republicans are spinning the past two weeks of finger-pointing and court proceedings as proof that the GOP is once again competitive in the quest for...
