The moles want gold! Two nitwit nightcrawlers — including a particularly portly “mole person” — were busted Thursday for diving into a Manhattan manhole in a subterranean quest for precious metals, police and law-enforcement sources said. Cops nabbed Kevin Rodriguez, 26, and Samuel Reveron, 25 – both Venezuelan citizens – near their Queens homes in connection to a surreal pre-dawn Wednesday sewer escapade just steps from the Loews Regency New York on the Upper East Side. The strange shenanigans could end up shedding light on the motivations of mysterious “mole people” spotted popping out of sewers — as Reveron admitted...

New York City's vast underground network has become the unlikely focus of fresh alarm. Surveillance footage shared widely online shows teams of men lifting manhole covers in the middle of the night, descending into the sewers with flashlights, tools, and protective gear, then resurfacing hours later.Police have investigated multiple such episodes, particularly in Brooklyn, yet their public message remains the same: no known threat to safety. That reassurance has failed to settle nerves in a city still scarred by past attacks and struggling under years of unchecked migration and progressive governance.Mole people? Treasure hunters? Something else? Police are investigating a string...

A second video of sewer spelunkers emerging from a Brooklyn manhole wearing headlights and carrying shovels has surfaced — but there remain no answers on what they are doing down there. One creepy new clip shows a whole cadre of men exiting from a manhole at the intersection of Bedford Avenue and Lynch Street in Williamsburg early Friday morning, according to footage obtained by Williamsburg 360. Video shows one man wearing a headlamp emerging from the ground after pushing off the cover of the manhole – which is located in the center of the intersection. [snip] Men with flashlights and...

Residents of Zimbabwe's second-biggest city have been asked to flush their toilets simultaneously on Monday at 7.30pm. Up to a million people will take part in a synchronised toilet flush in an attempt to unblock sewers in Zimbabwe. Authorities in Bulawayo - the country's second-largest city - have appealed to residents to flush their toilets at 7.30pm on Monday to clear built-up waste. Water is rationed in the city for up to 72 hours each week, which has led to waste accumulating in the sewer network. The city's mayor, Thaba Moyo, said the mass flush will become a weekly event....

Akron -- Mayor Don Plusquellic wants to sell the city's sewer system and use the money to send residents to the University of Akron for free. Plusquellic said Thursday that his plan is to create a scholarship fund by selling the sewer system, which the city values at $100 million to $400 million. That would give the city enough money to cover tuition and fees for the university or a trade school in the city. "This would be the kind of transformation that can reshape Akron for the rest of this century," Plusquellic said in his State of the City...

By day, Lazar Kunstmann is a typically avant-garde Parisian, an urbane, well-spoken video film editor who hangs out in the fashionable Latin Quarter. By night he inhabits a strange and secret world with its base in the tunnels beneath the French capital – the world of the urban explorers. Mr Kunstmann belongs to les UX, a clandestine network that is on a mission to discover and exploit the city’s neglected underworld. The urban explorers put on film shows in underground galleries, restore medieval crypts and break into monuments after dark to organise plays and readings. In the eyes of their...

MSNBC Moving Ahead With Shock Jock Show By DAVID BAUDER The Associated Press Wednesday, March 5, 2003; 4:57 PM Before it even debuts this weekend, talk-radio star Michael Savage's new MSNBC show has attracted more attention than anything else the struggling news network has on the air. Advocacy groups, led by the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, have launched a letter-writing campaign to keep Savage off the air. The syndicated radio personality fought back by calling his critics "stinking rats who hide in the sewers." His show, "The Savage Nation," will air at 5 p.m. EST on Saturday despite...
