  • SCIENTISTS INVENT CAMERA THAT CAN SEE THROUGH ALMOST ANYTHING

    11/19/2021 10:18:29 AM PST · by BenLurkin · 28 replies
The camera relies on a light capture system called “synthetic wavelength holography,” according to a press release from Northwestern Engineering. It works by scattering laser light onto hidden objects, then bouncing it back to the camera, where an AI reconstructs the signals to show the hidden object. A paper of the researchers’ findings has been published in Nature. Since the holography method allows the scientists to see fast-moving objects such as cars driving around corners, or even a heart beating through a person’s chest, it could be used in early-warning navigation systems for automobiles or for non-invasive medical imaging. The...

Monitoring a location or person with a camera or microphone has become a lot easier in recent years due to cameras having much higher resolutions while being fitted into ever smaller devices. Just about every smartphone now carries a high resolution camera capable of recording video along with a decent microphone. If you want to record someone covertly though, you still have the issue of hiding your recording devices from view. You’re also going to want to leave them recording for long periods of time without being discovered. Qwonn, a manufacture of security products, has come up with the...

Oddly Enough The 25-year-old worker made lewd comments after his colleague Jo Margetson, 29, mistakenly strayed into the scanner, which can see through clothes to produce an image of the body, the Sun newspaper reported. The case is believed to be the first of its kind since the full-body scanners were rushed...

  • Room with a view: Bathroom privacy losing priority

The old song lyrics “I need a place to hide away” traditionally have applied to the bathroom in conventional culture. It was the one comfort zone in which to be alone. Don’t count on it. The New York Times says attitudes about privacy are changing, and cutting-edge bathrooms have translucent glass or acrylic walls that make the interior visible from other rooms. Joel Sanders, an architect and professor of architecture at Yale, has designed several see-through bathrooms. The shame about the body is not a factor for many clients, he told the Times. Ideas about privacy are more relaxed. Some...
