The reason why I broke with my usual friendly demeanor and called people idiots in my header is pretty simple ... only an idiot will say that sectarian violence in Baghdad is worse than it has been. I don't know that there is anyone outside of official channels that has given you as much proof of that than I have, but here's some more.

After the Bush administration announced the U.S. would accept 7,000 Iraqi war refugees (second item, "The Daily Blade," February 21, 2007), OH Governor Ted Strickland told The Associated Press: "I am sympathetic to the plight of the innocent Iraqi people who have fled that country. However, I would not want to ask Ohioans to accept a greater burden than they already have borne for the Bush administration's failed policies."Strickland – who had voted against the October 2002 resolution authorizing military force to oust Saddam Hussein when he was a member of the House of Representatives - was swiftly and roundly...

Terrified that sectarian Muslim bloodshed could soon engulf the region, U.S. allies and adversaries in the Middle East have stepped up joint efforts to head off a religious civil war. Sunni Muslim Saudi Arabia and Shi'ite Iran have held intensive talks in recent days on ways to tamp down sectarian violence in Iraq and Lebanon. Over the weekend, Saudi King Abdullah issued an unusual public call for calm. Top Islamic clerics and scholars in Egypt, Qatar and Iraq also have issued statements urging Muslim unity, often blaming the United States and other outside actors of trying to divide the faithful....

Other attacks around Iraq killed four other people, and the U.S. military announced the death of a soldier in the north. A car bomb and two roadside bombs blew up within 10 minutes just before...

Despite all the well known American successes in Iraq, sectarian religious infighting between Sunnis and Shiites now threatens the ultimate success and future peaceful self-governance of a nation on the edge of civil war. If the march towards peace and self determination as a free country fails, it will not be America’s loss, but rather that of the Iraqi people.
