Scopes: Same Debate, Different World This year marks the 100th anniversary of the 1925 Scopes “Monkey” Trial, in which an ACLU-led attempt to overturn a Tennessee law banning the teaching of evolution in schools turned into a nationally broadcasted showdown between creationism and Darwinism. Understandably, the Scopes trial is often viewed through the lens of current debates surrounding evolution, creationism, and intelligent design.
