Andrew Romanoff, a staunch progressive who has championed policies such as the Green New Deal, on Saturday claimed victory over former Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper in the state's Democratic Senate caucuses. Romanoff made the declaration with reported results showing him earning 55 percent of the raw vote and Hickenlooper with just 31 percent, the Denver Post reported. The Colorado Democratic Party has said that 55 of the state's 64 counties have reported results.

National Democrats are canceling more than $1 million of planned commercial airtime for Colorado congressional candidate Andrew Romanoff — a sign of waning confidence in his prospects. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had reserved $1.4 million for TV spending to boost Romanoff in the final two weeks of his race against Republican Rep. Mike Coffman. .. Romanoff, a former state House speaker and unsuccessful 2010 Senate candidate, was once regarded as one of his party’s top 2014 hopefuls. But, with Republicans benefiting from a favorable national environment and Coffman running an energetic reelection campaign, Romanoff has seen his prospects dim....

The battle for the House has turned into trench warfare, with Republicans trying to scrape out enough wins to give them a historic majority and Democrats doing everything they can to minimize GOP gains. If the election were held today, strategists from both sides say, Republicans would expand their current majority by between six and eight seats ... Republicans head into the final weeks of the campaign almost exclusively on offense. Of the 31 or so races seriously in contention, 22 — over 70 percent — are in districts held by Democrats. Twenty of the 31 districts were won by...

U.S. Rep. Mike Coffman’s searing criticism of Former Montana Governor Schweitzer’s ridiculously sexist comments inspired some pretty damning headlines yesterday. But, Coffman’s opponent, Andrew Romanoff, was silent on the matter. And, now we know why – Schweitzer was in Colorado seven months ago stumping for Romanoff. ... Calling Diane Feinstein a prostitute-turned-nun is probably not the way to win friends and influence people, so we have to ask – will Romanoff denounce his fundraiser buddy’s comments? We’ve reached out to his campaign for comment. They responded with [drum roll] silence. ... They say you are who your friends are. Perhaps...

Back in 2006, then State Treasurer Mike Coffman stood in font of 200 people on the steps of the state Capitol as they launched a ballot initiative that would have stopped Colorado from providing services to all undocumented immigrants, even children. Coffman led the group in reciting the pledge of allegiance, and then handed the microphone over to a string of speakers from an organization called Defend Colorado Now, which was organizing the extreme anti-immigrant initiative.

DENVER – A liberal ally may have cheered Democrat congressional candidate Andrew Romanoff’s commitment to reject contributions from political action committees (PACs) and special interest groups, but the former state lawmaker appears to be sidestepping that pledge by accepting money from high-profile lobbyists and fundraising “bundlers.” T.Q. Houlton, a spokesman for the National Republican Campaign Committee (NRCC), blasted Romanoff, who faced similar criticism during his unsuccessful 2010 bid for the U.S. Senate. “After a devastating electoral loss in the 2010 Senate primary, Romanoff is making it clear that he is just another washed up professional politician looking to make full-time...

Andrew Romanoff entered the presidential robo-calls/appearances derby today, with a late entry from former President Bill Clinton. Clinton also brought up a fairly unexplored topic in this campaign, mentioning Romanoff as “the top-line candidate.” Tuesday’s results in Colorado may well turn up an indicator of how much Democratic candidates want to be seen with Obama for the general election campaign.

Romanoff sells house to help finance Senate campaignEli Stokols Political Reporter 9:16 PM MDT, July 26, 2010 DENVER - Andrew Romanoff has made campaign finance and fundraising a central theme of his underdog campaign for U.S. Senate, trying to turn his opponent's fundraising prowess into a liability. Last week, Romanoff, the former House Speaker, sold his Washington Park bungalow and loaned nearly all of the proceeds to his campaign. And yet, Romanoff's campaign is taking a low-key approach when it comes to highlighting a dramatic move that would seem to underscore his apparent willingness to put his money where his...

"Of course." And in two simple, terse words, Colorado's Andrew Romanoff told me today he would cooperate with a congressional investigation into Jobsgate headed by Congressman Darryl Issa. Or a Justice Department investigation if Attorney General Eric Holder's highly politicized staff finally decided to investigate their White House bosses. Romanoff made the statement live and on-air in an exclusive interview on Peter Boyles' KHOW -Denver radio talk show Wednesday morning. Romanoff had been avoiding Boyles for months. He had avoided me. Why? Engaged in a hot race for the Democratic Senate nomination with appointed Senator Michael Bennet, Romanoff's name had...

The top Republican contenders continue to hold modest leads in the race for the U.S. Senate in the toss-up state of Colorado, with county prosecutor Ken Buck now running slightly stronger than former Lieutenant Governor Jane Norton against the top Democratic hopefuls. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Colorado finds Buck earning 48% support against incumbent Democratic Senator Michael Bennett who gets 39% of the vote. If former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff is his Democratic opponent, Buck leads by a narrower 47% to 42% margin. A month ago, Buck posted a 46% to 41% lead over...

Throwing a wrench in the gears of Democrats pushing the candidacy of Colorado Sen. Michael Bennet, Bill Clinton today endorsed Bennet's primary challenger, former state House Speaker Andrew Romanoff. The move solidifies the fact that Clinton and Democratic leadership in Washington are not always on the same page. The White House is so firmly in support of Bennet that it discussed other potential jobs in Washington with Romanoff that he could explore instead of running for Senate. "Colorado is far better off today because of Andrew Romanoff's leadership. America will be too," Clinton writes in an email to supporters titled,...

Today in Colorado, Clinton endorsed Andrew Romanoff, the former speaker of the state house. Romanoff is challenging Sen. Michael Bennet, an Obama ally, in a heated Democratic primary. This is the first time that Clinton has actively campaigned against an Obama-backed candidate. Usually, he is a team player: Earlier this year, he backed Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D., Ark.) in her primary. He even helped Obama to try and persuade his old friend, Rep. Joe Sestak (D., Pa.) from challenging Sen. Arlen Specter (D., Pa.).

The liberal media may have lost interest in the Obama administration's sleazy job offers to two potential Senate candidates, but the White House shouldn't breathe too easily just yet. Republican congressmen and alternative media remain on the hunt for answers, and for justice. The White House acknowledged dangling potential jobs to Democratic candidates Joe Sestak in Pennsylvania and Andrew Romanoff in Colorado while trying to persuade each to drop primary challenges against the administration's favored incumbent senators. The White House said it used former President Bill Clinton as an intermediary for the benefit of Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter. For the sake...

Judicial Watch, the nonpartisan public interest group that investigates and prosecutes government corruption, announced today that it has filed an official complaint with the Office of Special Counsel requesting an investigation into violations of the Hatch Act by White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina. Emanuel and Messina allegedly interfered with Senate elections in Pennsylvania and Colorado respectively by offering federal appointments to Rep Joe Sestak and Andrew Romanoff in order to persuade the Senate candidates to abandon their campaigns. According to the complaint, filed on June 15, 2010: As widely reported in...

Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) said Thursday he was aware the White House had urged Andrew Romanoff not to challenge him in a primary. Bennet told The Hill he knew beforehand that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina had reached out to Romanoff in hopes of avoiding a primary challenge to the incumbent Bennet. “Yeah, I was aware,” Bennet said. “Right.” Bennet said he didn’t remember specifically how he was made aware of the contact, but pointed to a September 2009 Denver Post article about Messina’s contact with Romanoff. An aide clarified that Bennet knew before the article’s publication...

Bennet told The Hill he knew beforehand that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina had reached out to Romanoff in hopes of avoiding a primary challenge to the incumbent Bennet. “Yeah, I was aware,” Bennet said. “Right.” Romanoff, a former state House speaker, attracted headlines recently by stating he was contacted by Messina last September with various job offers... The federal agency being asked to investigate whether the Obama administration used improper federal job offers to avert Democratic primary fights has no permanent leader and faces a mounting backlog of cases, according to a recent report to Congress. Though the Office of Special Counsel is specifically charged with investigating instances of illegal political activity by federal employees under the 1939 Hatch Act, the Obama administration has yet to appoint somebody to run the independent agency, which in its 2008 report to Congress acknowledged struggling with the volume and "seriousness" of the cases referred to it. On Wednesday, Rep. Darrell...

What if during the Bush Administration, it was discovered that Karl Rove, with the President's approval, hatched a plan to influence the outcome of at least two elections? The outcry from all Americans and particularly the liberal media would have risen to the heavens, and rightly so. No doubt there would have been demands that Bush be impeached. However, because it is the Obama administration that used these tactics, the reaction from the media has been a big "so what?" Liberals are saying it's just politics as usual, which is partly correct. In Chicago, it is considered politics as usual....

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and one of his top aides, Jim Messina, have been referred to the government's Office of Special Counsel for an investigation into whether they violated the Hatch Act by offering administration jobs to two political candidates in exchange for dropping out of their races. Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif., the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, wrote in letters to William Reukauf, the acting U.S. special counsel, that the statements by the White House and the two candidates involved – Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., and former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff – are...

Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) submitted a formal referral for two top White House officials to the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) for allegedly having violated a law prohibiting federal officials from using official resources for political purposes. Issa, the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, submitted a complaint to the OSC accusing White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel and his deputy, Jim Messina, of using official resources to help discourage two Democratic primary candidates from waging challenges to incumbents. The California Republican has led an effort to investigate the administration's role in discouraging Rep....
