U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews announced Tuesday that he is resigning from Congress after more than 23 years, a decision that could short-circuit a House Ethics Committee inquiry into whether the New Jersey Democrat used campaign donations for personal purposes. Andrews, who previously aspired to higher office, said the inquiry was not a factor is his resignation, which is effective Feb. 18. He is taking a job running the governmental affairs unit of a Philadelphia law firm where his wife has worked. …

Enough is enough. Last week, a Washington watchdog group named Andrews, the 11-term congressman from New Jersey’s 1st District, as one of the 12 “most corrupt” members of Congress. In its annual report on ethical challenges among members of the House and Senate, the non-partisan Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) ranked Andrews, a Democrat, near the bottom of all 535 senators and House members. The CREW listing is just a reminder of how embattled Andrews has become. The Camden County politician is already the subject of a complaint filed with the Federal Election Commission over questionable spending...

Rep. Rob Andrews (D-N.J.), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, told CNSNews.com that he supports repealing the military's ban against sodomy and bestiality because, while he does not condone these practices, he does not think whether someone engages in these behaviors is "relevant to one's conduct as a military officer or an enlisted person." On Capitol Hill on Tuesday, CNSNews.com asked Andrews: "Did you know that the Senate Version of the Defense Authorization Bill, it includes a provision which repeals Article 125 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice--that's the law against sodomy and bestiality--a provision not in...

Here is video of Democratic New Jersey Rep Rob Andrews taking a cheap shot at Fox News while on Fox News. Andrews asked "could we have just a minute of fair and balance just as an exception here?" Fox News anchor Gregg Jarrett then pointed out that he had just asked a "very tough question" to Republican Congresswoman Marsha Blackburn earlier in the segment. Jarrett said "that's a cheap shot and I'm not going to put up with it here." He then ended the segment.(Video)

U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, who supported Hillary Clinton throughout the primary season, disclosed he received a phone call shortly before the April 22 Pennsylvania primary from a top member of Clinton's organization and that the caller explicitly discussed a strategy of winning over Jewish voters by exploiting tensions between Jews and African-Americans. "There have been signals coming out of the Clinton campaign that have racial overtones that indeed disturb me," Andrews said at his campaign headquarters in Cherry Hill Tuesday night after he lost his bid for the Democratic U.S. Senate nomination.

Ignoring calls by party leaders to stay out of the race, U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews, D-1st, said he would take on U.S. Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., in the June Democratic primary, according to an e-mailed statement from Andrews spokesman Bill Caruso. Andrews said people across the state wanted "real choices based on a positive, substantive campaign" and that state voters deserve a choice. "Today's newspapers carry stories of 'threats of retribution' against citizens who wish to engage in such a campaign," Andrews said in the release. "It is time that someone stood up to this kind of politics and stood...
  • Question for New Jersey Freepers, re: Rep Rob Andrews

Ever since 9/11, I have been impressed with Rep Rob Andrews (D-NJ) He does not seem to get involved in the partisan mudslinging and as far as I can tell, puts National Security before politics. He seems to be one of the few dems I can respect. However, cynic that I am, I know looks can be deceiving, so I am asking you. Is my respect misplaced or is he the real deal? Thanks in advance.

In other situations, Democrat Rob Andrews might feel a bit lonely. But the six-term U.S. representative likely prizes this sort of solitude: No Republican will run against him in November. No Republicans in Camden and Gloucester Counties could muster 100 write-in votes in the June 4 primary, the last chance in New Jersey to earn a slot on the ballot. While some GOP supporters say the lack of a candidate will display the weakness of the party to voters, others say the party should not waste its limited resources running an underdog against the popular Andrews. Mark Otto, a political...
