Almost 10,000 Chinese coronavirus-related deaths were reported in December as the number of hospitalizations rose, the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) noted Wednesday. The agency said hospitalizations jumped 42 percent across 50 countries, and medical facilities saw a 62 percent rise in patients placed in intensive care units (ICU), Deutsche Welle (DW) reported Thursday. W.H.O. chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “Although 10,000 deaths a month is far less than the peak of the pandemic, this level of preventable deaths is not acceptable.”

While the White House and its media water-carriers try to distract the American public with gay-marriage talk and half-century-old tales of Mitt Romney's prep school pranks, the inconvenient truth remains: President Obama is responsible for perpetrating jaw-dropping, job-killing scientific fraud. And his minions are still trying to cover it up. New internal e-mails disclosed by the House Natural Resources Committee this week show that a supposedly exculpatory report on the administration's doctored drilling moratorium analysis -- issued by the Department of Interior's Inspector General's office -- was itself incomplete, misleading and unsubstantiated. Even more damning, the documents reveal that the...

Three people convicted of crimes as a result of a terrorism-related investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) were later naturalized as U.S. citizens by the Obama administration, according to federal auditors. The March 2011 audit (released on April 21, 2011) by the Government Accountability Office (GAO), entitled Criminal Alien Statistics: Information on Incarcerations, Arrests and Costs, shows that three individuals were among “defendants where the investigation involved an identified link to international terrorism but they were charged with violating other statutes [not directly related to terrorism], including fraud, immigration, drugs,

CHAMPAIGN, lll. — A diet rich in the plant compound luteolin reduces age-related inflammation in the brain and related memory deficits by directly inhibiting the release of inflammatory molecules in the brain, researchers report. Luteolin (LOOT-ee-oh-lin) is found in many plants, including carrots, peppers, celery, olive oil, peppermint, rosemary and chamomile. The new study, which examined the effects of dietary luteolin in a mouse model of aging, appears in the Journal of Nutrition. The researchers focused on microglial cells, specialized immune cells that reside in the brain and spinal cord. Infections stimulate microglia to produce signaling molecules, called cytokines, which...

Molecular clockwork and related theories Testing the basis for “Mitochondrial Eve.”Molecular clocks, a complex topic central to current debates on human evolution, first came into prominence in paleoanthropology in the 1960’s. One well-known study by Vincent Sarich and Alan Wilson of the University of California (1967) measured the immunological reactions in primates and other animals to a control sample of the blood protein serum albumin. The differences, assumed due to a constant rate of evolution through mutations, were then plotted on a linear scale showing time elapsed since each species diverged from a common ancestor. On the same principle, DNA,...

District Attorney Ronnie Earle issued subpoenas last Thursday for California businessmen Brent Wilkes and Max Gelwix, records of Perfect Wave Technologies, Wilkes Corp. and ADCS Inc. in connection with a contribution to a fundraising committee at the center of the investigation that led to DeLay's indictment on money laundering charges. La. Lawmakers Hold Session on Storm Relief By DOUG SIMPSON Associated Press Writer The Associated Press BATON ROUGE, La. Louisiana lawmakers have just over two weeks to chart their hurricane-ravaged state's future, from rewriting building codes to weighing tax breaks to changing how employment benefits are calculated, and then answering the big question: how to pay for it all. Gov. Kathleen Blanco called the special session starting Sunday for the Legislature to address 77 hurricane-related issues. It has to end by Nov. 22, two days before Thanksgiving. "Frankly, I think it's too much to do in 16 days, but we'll...

Gang-related murders soaring L.A., other cities in crisis as youth programs lack funds to fight crime. By Beth Barrett Staff writer Even as violent crime declines overall, gang-related murders have soared across the country and now represent a major law enforcement crisis in the Los Angeles area, other major cities and even rural communities, according to a study released Tuesday. While funding of juvenile programs was being cut, gang activity has been spreading rapidly from Los Angeles to the rest of the country, and homicides linked to juveniles in gangs have soared from 692 nationally in 1999 to more than...

HELSINKI, Finland - Police gave a record $216,900 speeding ticket to a millionaire under a system in which traffic fines are linked to an offender's income. The Iltalehti tabloid reported that millionaire Jussi Salonoja zoomed through the city center last weekend in a 25 mph zone and police handed him a ticket of $216,900. It didn't say what his speed was. The fine was based on information they got directly for the inland revenue office, the Tuesday report said. Salonoja, 27, could not be reached for comment, and police declined to discuss the alleged speeding incident until it reaches...

Can you imagine a bill that intentionally forces marijuana users to inhale a greater amount of tar and carbon monoxide? What about a bill that dramatically increases penalties on medical marijuana providers who develop high-quality strains of marijuana for seriously ill patients? The Drug Sentencing Reform Act, scheduled to be introduced by U.S. Rep. Mark Souder (R-IN) within the next few days, would accomplish these "goals." Please call your U.S. representative today and urge him or her not to cosponsor this bill. See below for details about how to do this. While the most prominent objective of this bill is...

Are George Bush and Saddam Hussein related? November 27 2002 at 11:43AM Could George W Bush and Saddam Hussein be related? According to controversial geneticist Dr Spencer Wells the answer is yes. His research and theories are explained in Journey of Man, premiering on DStv's National Geographic Channel on December 15 at 10pm. In the programme Wells says that all human beings are related in a single brotherhood of man. Forget everything you know about family and everything you think you know about race. New genetic evidence, based on thousands of blood samples taken across the world, shows that 50...
