An increase in total cereal intake and total cheese intake may reduce the risk for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), according to a study. Xingwu Liu, M.D. and colleagues performed a two-step Mendelian randomization analysis to obtain causal estimates of dietary factors and blood lipids on GERD. Independent genetic variants associated with 13 kinds of dietary factors and five kinds of blood lipids were selected as instrumental variables. The summary statistics for GERD included 129,080 cases and 473,524 controls. The researchers found that genetically predicted total pork intake, total bread intake, total cereal intake, and total cheese intake were associated with...

Reflux disease manifests as acid regurgitation and heartburn and is a known risk factor for esophageal cancer. However, a new study now reports that the majority of patients do not have a higher risk of cancer. A large-scale study from three Nordic countries shows that the cancer risk is only elevated in patients whom gastroscopy reveals to have changes in the esophageal mucosa. "This is a gratifying result since reflux disease is a very common condition and most patients are found to have a completely normal mucus membrane on gastroscopic examination," says Dag Holmberg. In reflux disease, acidic stomach contents...
  • Long-term use of certain acid reflux drugs linked to higher risk of dementia (PPIs)

    08/13/2023 8:52:23 PM PDT · by ConservativeMind · 57 replies
People who take acid reflux medications called proton pump inhibitors for four-and-a-half years or more may have a higher risk of dementia compared to people who do not take these medications, according to research. This study does not prove that acid reflux drugs cause dementia; it only shows an association. "Proton pump inhibitors are a useful tool to help control acid reflux, however long-term use has been linked in previous studies to a higher risk of stroke, bone fractures and chronic kidney disease," said study author Kamakshi Lakshminarayan, MBBS, Ph.D. The study included 5,712 people, age 45 and older, who...

I believe that I have found a natural medicine (refluxed pure natural rubber, and since natural, basically unregulated by FDA) that is anti – carcinogenic and may cure cancer, and natural rubber (the longest known molecule), seams to have the ability to also stop bleeding once in the blood system, which in many cases is the first sign of cancer as an cancerous ulcer. The German scientist Paul Ehrlich (1854-1915) came up with the concept in medicine of a magic bullet that would kill bacteria but not harm Humans. He had some success with an arsenic compound that he add...
