Here's something to consider when talking about Barack Obama and the results of today's elections. In New Jersey only 75% of voters who approve of Obama's job performance plan to vote for Jon Corzine. And in NY-23 only 71% of people who think Obama's doing a good job plan to vote for Bill Owens. I guess you could claim that shows a failure on Obama's part to convince his backers to vote for folks he supports. But I think it's more an indication of Owens and Corzine being flawed candidates. A significant number of voters in those races are voting...

TheConservatives.com Status Update Allie Winegar Duzett, November 2, 2009 John Solomon is not just a writer for The Washington Times—he is also a founder of the new Times-sponsored website, TheConservatives.com. Solomon discussed this new website at a recent Heritage Foundation Bloggers’ Briefing. TheConservatives.com is an innovative new site with amazing new technologies. At this website, people can keep up with profiled conservatives, such as Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich, in a way that they couldn’t before: the site aggregates everything that such profiled conservatives are up to. This means that if you want to check out what Mitt Romney is...

When the votes are counted Tuesday, the State Senate’s 1st District might have seen its first seriously contested election since 1992. One thing is certain: It will be the first election there since 1994 with no incumbent on the ballot. Not that the candidates are political rookies: Buddy Carter recently was in the state House and Billy Hair chaired the Chatham County Commission for eight years. Carter and Hair are Republicans, which is no coincidence. Shifting boundaries and political loyalties have made the lst – which takes in Bryan County and parts of Chatham and Liberty counties – a GOP...

Today we will have a presentation on how North Korean institutions have changed since the death of Kim Il Sung. One particular item, the presenting group this week has looked at is the new North Korean constitution, adopted in late September of this year stands out to highlight how much North Korea has fallen. Below is a rough draft of a translation of the North Korean constitution. There is a section missing on the draft copy of the translation, but I hope to have that updated shortly. But, what is fascinating about looking at the constitution is how far North...

Maine voters narrowly favor Question 1, which would reverse the state's law legalizing same sex marriage. At 51-47 it's within the margin of error but there has been slight movement in support of the question since a PPP poll two weeks ago showed it knotted up at 48. The measure's fate could be determined by the age composition of the electorate on Tuesday. Senior citizens support it by a 59-40 margin while voters under 30 oppose it 51-48. Last year exit polls showed more voters under 30 turning out for the Presidential election than ones over 65 but we expect...

There’s an interesting article in the current New York Review of books (predictably, a book review) detailing the history of the National Security Agency, that shadowy power-behind-the-power to which we surrender much of our privacy. That in itself is interesting, but I found the introduction a bit shocking: the NSA is constructing a datacenter in the Utah desert that they project will be storing yottabytes of surveillance data. And what is a yottabyte? I’m glad you asked. There are a thousand gigabytes in a terabyte, a thousand terabytes in a petabyte, a thousand petabytes in an exabyte, a thousand exabytes...

In the early centuries of the first millennium A.D., before missionaries such as St. Patrick and St. Columcille converted them to Christianity, the Celts practiced an elaborate religion through their priestly caste, the Druids, who were priests, poets, scientists and scholars all at once. As religious leaders, ritual specialists, and bearers of learning, the Druids were not unlike the very missionaries and monks who were to Christianize their people and brand them evil devil worshippers. As a result of their efforts to wipe out "pagan" holidays, such as Samhain, the Christians succeeded in effecting major transformations in it.

Over the years, I have spent a great deal of time studying psychology. To be specific, I've studied how psychology is often used to manipulate people. I first gained an interest in this subject years ago as it pertained to cultists (LONG story), but eventually I started to notice the same tactics used in the media, in political debate, and in general conversation with left-leaning people. In this post I will go over some of the basic tactics often used by those who wish to manipulate you, and how you can defend against them. ...

SNIPPET - QUOTE: Possibly the mystery of the three recent incidents of exploding Yemeni fishing boats can be explained as Iranian missile shipments. The following article asserts Iran is shipping from an African country, likely Sudan, to Yemen. A Yemeni fishing boat also exploded in a Sudanese port and Yemen's Midi Island is a new transit point for Sudanese refugees. Once there's a smuggling route established for weapons, the boats often also transport refugees. However this report is taken from a Yemeni government stooge newspaper, Akhbar al Youm, which once announced that Ayatollah Sistani and I (me Jane) wrote the...

The average length of stay until expected release of parole violators that are recommitted with a new felony conviction is 36.71 months.[1]Ohio. Based upon this figure, the cost to incarcerate is $94,834 per recidivist in this demographic. The total incarceration cost alone for these recidivists is between $35.8 and $58.7 billion. Can prisoner recidivism realistically be reduced to a figure below ten percent? It can’t happen overnight, but yes, it can. With state and federal budgets for departments of rehabilitation & corrections reaching incendiary levels, the need to implement new and innovative programs has become profound.

One of the hot trends on the internet right now is Robert Bauer and his wife, director of White House communications Anita Dunn, henceforth, Anita Dumb. After a little digging it was uncovered that Robert Bauer has quite the rap sheet, which makes him a perfect partner for the Maoist Anita Dumb. Bauer is an attorney who served as general counsel for the president's Brown Shirt operation Obama for America during the presidential campaign and also serves as Obama's personal attorney. Let's take a look at Robert Bauer's achievements during his tenure: * Served as general counsel for Obama for...

In the world wide web and in the publishing world, there are conspiracy theories going about concerning topics from the Kennedy assassination, aliens, 9/11 being an inside job, Chariot of the gods, a book claiming that extraterrestrials influenced the ancient world, and corporate control over government. While some present some truth, some are fantastic and even fictitious. One such theory involves ancient history and a belief that we have not been alone in the universe for sometime. British Author and Green activist David Icke has compiled a series of books claiming that since the dawn of time, Earth has been...

Allegations of continuing corruption continue to mount against the embattled Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN). In the wake of tremendous negative publicity, much of which was featured here at Big Government, and adverse House and Senate votes ACORN has begun laying off dozens of low-level workers and staff across the country. However, under conditions of strict anonymity, ACORN organizers and staff have complained to the ACORN 8 (www.acorn8.com) that senior management has ordered them to continue to work for ACORN as “volunteers” but for them to apply for unemployment insurance. In order to legally collect unemployment insurance...

Over 90% of flu cases this year will be caused by the H1N1 strain of virus. As with the most strains of the flu virus, young children, the elderly, those with comprised immune systems and pregnant women are especially at risk. The H1N1 strain of flu carries a greater risk of complications and death compared to the traditional flu. This is due to the fact that the H1N1 virus causes more severe respiratory complications much faster. As a maternal-fetal medicine specialist, I am very concerned that pregnant women understand the dangers of not being vaccinated for both the seasonal flu...
