It was only a few years ago that an anxiety started to enter the thoughts of most people in New England, when their recreational activities involved going into the ocean. The concern wasn’t the usual how cold will the water be. It was an increasing worry about a white shark "encounter" - or "incident" - or "attack", depending on the level of their anxiety. The fear of sharks, or large flesh-eating land animals, snakes, rodents, etc. is built into of the makeup of most people. That is understandable and helps our species survive. White shark article writers seem to want...

Another reason is at the end of 2020 a group of biologists formed a new white shark consortium. So, you can expect more information to be coming from this expanded group of shark biologists. The newly formed consortium consists of the original two groups, the...

WELLFLEET – Great white sharks don’t hang up their fins when lifeguards clock out for the day. Now a group devoted to safe ocean recreation says new — and inexpensive — technology could provide an added layer of protection for swimmers and surfers during unguarded hours. Cape Cod Ocean Community set up a demonstration of the warning system that uses flashing red and white lights and an audible alarm Thursday morning at Le-Count Hollow Beach. The warning system mounted on private property on a dune above the beach is designed by Moosh Systems to go off whenever it receives phone...

TRURO, Mass. — A no swimming order has been lifted at Head of the Meadow Beach after a confirmed shark sighting forced officials to close the water temporarily late Saturday morning, the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy says. The order was issued by Cape Cod National Seashore officials, according to an alert from the conservancy's "Sharktivity" app that was sent shortly after 10:45 a.m. Saturday. Beach-only activities were still permitted during the no swimming order, which has since been lifted. According to Cape Cod National Seashore officials, sharks have bitten people three times in the waters off Truro and Wellfleet. One...
