Lt. Gen. Michael P. DeLong, USMC, has rebuffed Sen. Kerry, along with Ret. General Tommy Franks early this week, saying that resources were not diverted when Operation Iraqi Freedom began in March of 2003. He said it was his responsibility to watch Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. Before the war began, as recounted by general Delong and General Franks, President Bush asked them if they were ready.
