Mike "Fat Mike" Burkett from punk rock band NOFX has been permanently banned from Emo's after pulling a disgusting prank during his SXSW showcase. Burkett, performing as Cokie The Clown, started his set by pulling out a bottle of tequila, pouring several shots, and then taking a few shots himself before sharing the rest with the excited crowd. In the video above, hosted by TMZ, the audience can be seen eagerly grabbing the plastic cups that Burkett passes out. Moments later, Burkett replays a video on a small TV on stage, showing him urinating into the same tequila bottle just...

Some acts cite legit reasons for leaving, but members of NOFX, Thursday talk of tension between bands. For most bands, landing a coveted slot on the Warped Tour is like finding a golden ticket. But this year, bands have been dropping off the annual summer tour's 11th installment like flies. From First to Last bolted just three weeks into the festival so frontman Sonny Moore could undergo surgery to remove a nodule on his vocal cords. Then, Gatsby's American Dream dropped out. "There's no juicy gossip to report, we just need a break to be with our families at this...

This is a lesson in “If you pay the right people enough money, laws will be changed so that your corporation can own more than a fair share of the market.” Bush Connection to Clear Channel In 1998, George W. got an excessive amount of money from a guy named Tom Hicks. Here’s how: Tom Hicks purchased the Texas Rangers from George W. Bush and other investors for $250 million. From an initial investment of $600,000 George W. profited $14.9 million on the transaction. On January 22, 2001, (un-) President Bush designates Michael Powell, son of Secretary of State Colin...

The irony of “conservative punk,” or ConPunk as it’s uncommonly known, is not lost on yours truly. According to my thesaurus, “conformist” is a synonym of “conservative.” We’ve heard enough about Punkvoter.com and Rock against Bush in the past year to be swayed into thinking that punk rock – the few remaining bones of punk rock’s corpse not already sold to television commercials – is decidedly liberal. But punk rock’s history is steeped in conservative politics; it should come as no surprise that there’s been a rise in conservative punk in recent years. To those who choose not to take...

It appears that Line 6, the California guitar amp/effects company, is supporting the Punkvoter.com tour (aka the Rock Against Bush), letting it out by touting the fact that one of their endorsing bands is on it. Punkvoter.com is a corporation put together by members of several punk rock bands and record labels with the sole goal of tarnishing Bush's reputation and getting people to vote against him. The punk band Midtown, whom before this I had never heard of, is featured on their Artist's News section for being on this tour, even though there are hundreds of more well-known Line...

I had to take an extra day off to recover from this weekend's activities, but I'm back now, and ready to give a full report. On Friday I attended the Phoenix stop on the Punk Voter tour which promotes the CD compilation "Rock Against Bush". The concert featured such huge acts as NOFX, Alkaline Trio, and Authority Zero. I didn't pay to get in of course, I have a friend who gets free tickets to everything. To ensure that we would stand out in the crowd of dyed hair and ripped jeans, I wore my "Bush Cheney in '04" hat...
