By commuting the sentences of 79 offenders earlier this week, resident Obama has now shortened prison terms for more people than his 11 predecessors combined. Tuesday’s commutations push the number of sentences he’s shortened throughout his residency to 1,023—and he still has several weeks left in office. Most of those who have received clemency are nonviolent drug offenders, though many were also convicted of firearms violations related to drug crimes. A significant portion had been serving life sentences

Following an administration-wide commitment to reform sentencing guidelines for non-violent drug offenders, President Obama on Tuesday commuted prison time for 22 people convicted of federal drug crimes, many of whom faced decades to life behind bars.

I am writing a college essay for an English Composition class. The assignment is an argument essay with the topic of adult punishment for minors who commit violent crimes. My stance on the subject is, indeed adult time for adult crime. I am looking for a selected group that would be known to be against adult punishment for minors in violent crimes. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, do you know who is it that determines the case be tried in adult or juvinile court?
