His nephew, Stuart Milk, attended Friday’s event and said naming the ship — known as a fleet oiler — after his uncle sends a message to people around the world.

The supportive tweet is the latest controversy over same-sex issues surrounding Vatican’s point man on clerical sex abuse. The archbishop, who is adjunct secretary at the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and took a leading role in February’s summit of bishops on protection of minors in the Church, “liked” a tweet from Charlie Joughin, a supporter of LGBT rights in Washington, D.C. The tweet, dated July 1, was a photo...

Sparkle Lynn Moore, son of Michele Porter Pride week in Portland has always been an important holiday in Michelle Porter's family. With two of her five children identifying as queer, Porter says, the annual event—with its colorful parades and performances—has become a fun way to celebrate her kids and support the local LGBTQ+ community. This year, however, Porter says she's afraid to bring her family to any Portland Pride events. That's because a few alt-right bloggers have used photos and videos of her 10-year-old son dressed in drag to spread anti-LGBTQ+ messaging across the internet, exposing Porter and her family...

A 42-year-old gay headteacher who was fired for having sex with two 17-year-old boys he met on Grindr has won a discrimination case against his former employer. Matthew Aplin, the former principal at Tywyn Primary School in Neath Port Talbot, Wales, was found by a tribunal to have been discriminated against, reports The Telegraph. The “openly gay” teacher of 19 years had arranged in August 2015 to meet with the two boys on the gay hookup site and the three of them had group sex. Social services and police uncovered the liaison days later, but it was determined there had...

State Senator Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Assemblywoman Susan Eggman (D-Stockton) introduced recent legislation “to end blatant discrimination against LGBT young people regarding California’s sex offender registry.” However, under their bill, SB 145, the offenders would not have to automatically register as sex offenders if the offenders are within 10 years of age of the minor.Wiener claims the current law “disproportionately targets LGBT young people for mandatory sex offender registration, since LGBT people usually cannot engage in vaginal intercourse.”Existing law, the Sex Offender Registration Act, amended by Proposition 35 by voters in 2012 (Ban on Human Trafficking and Sex Slavery), requires...

Over the past two decades, Bryan Singer’s films—The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie, Superman Returns, four of the X-Men movies—have earned more than $3 billion at the box office, putting him in the top tier of Hollywood directors. He’s known for taking risks in his storytelling: It was Singer’s idea, for instance, to open the original X-Men movie with a scene at Auschwitz, where a boy uses his superpowers to bend the metal gates that separate him from his parents. Studio executives were skeptical about starting a comic-book movie in a concentration camp, but the film became a blockbuster and launched a...

Under the new plans, school children would be educated about gay, lesbian and transgender relationships “without distinction as to their heterosexual counterparts”. It also recommends changing legislation to ensure that schools must teach the new...
