In an investigative study of the Federal Election Commission's database published last week, the Indianapolis Star found that only 31 current athletes and coaches out of a pool of approximately 4,300 contributed to a political campaign over the past year. Leagues included in the study were Major League Baseball, the NBA, NHL, NFL and WNBA, in addition to the top-50 ranked competitors in NASCAR, the IRL, PGA, Champions Tour and LPGA.
