dislogue September 17, 2004 Crying Girl or Crying Wolf? Rather than continue putting updates in the earlier post, I'm going to start a new one to deal with the questions surrounding the picture below. I will leave a pointer there with a note that there is more up-to-date information here. These are the newpaper accounts of the event I've located so far:Democrats accused of ripping Bush signs, The Washington Times, September 17, 2004. Barboursville resident Phil Parlock and his children became national celebrities in the world of Internet blogging and conservative talk radio on Friday. A Bush-Cheney campaign sign yanked from the hands of 3-year-old Sophia Parlock and ripped into pieces was the focus of all the attention. The incident occurred Thursday evening at Tri-State Airport during Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards’ campaign stop. Republican supporters all over the Internet on Friday were saying Parlock was merely a Republican exercising his First Amendment rights, set upon by Democratic thugs.

PARLOCK UPDATE By Michelle Malkin · September 21, 2004 04:01 PM For those still interested: Just received a call from the IUPAT, which has now identified the union member who grabbed the Bush/Cheney sign from Phil Parlock's daughter and threw the pieces at the family as they left the event. "We are taking steps to deal with the individual," the union told me. Meanwhile, President Bush sent the little girl a new sign that read: "Dear Sophia, Thank you for supporting my campaign. I understand someone tore up your sign. So I am sending you a new sign and a...

.Inside PoliticsBy Greg Pierce'Ridiculous' rumors When 3-year-old Sophia Parlock's crying face became nationally famous Thursday, some Democrats charged that it was part of a hoax. Photographs of a West Virginia campaign rally showed a man holding pieces of the crying girl's Bush-Cheney sign, after her father said Democrats had torn the sign apart. The man was wearing a T-shirt identifying himself as a member of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). But on DemocraticUnderground.com and other Internet sites, some Democrats said that the man in the photo was actually the girl's older brother. "Ridiculous," Sophia's father, Phil...

LOOK FOR THE UNION ***HOLE Here's the deal with this photo. The union goon on the left is basking in the glory of tearing up the Bush/Cheney sign of the little girl now crying on her poppa's shoulders. After becoming one of Yahoo's most blogified photos of the day yesterday, the men in pajamas got a rare concession from a union official yesterday: Statement from the General President Regarding the Events in Huntington, WV The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades believes in the fundamental right for civil discourse, freedom of speech and activism to support our candidates and...

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - Phil Parlock says he's a peaceful guy who doesn't mind carrying a Republican sign to a Democratic rally. Others say he has a history since 1996 of attending Democratic rallies in West Virginia for the sole purpose of provoking the anger of the party faithful. On Thursday, the Huntington real estate agent said, he hid nine Bush-Cheney signs under his pant leg and took 3-year-old daughter Sophia and 11-year-old son Alex to a rally for Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards. An older son manned the van outside the rally with a larger Bush sign. When it...

I JUST got this e-mail alert from www.goodnewsamerica.us 'If the picture of little 3-year-old Sophia Parlock crying after some Kerry-Edwards Union Thugs ripped up her Bush-Cheney poster and gave her back the pieces got to you, well, you weren't the only one. Well, there's a happy ending. After seeing the picture of the tearful Sophia on her dad's shoulders, aides said the president was sending her a little note Friday along with a signed campaign poster and an autographed photo of the Prez and his dog. "Dear Sophia" Bush penned, "Thank you for supporting my campaign. I understand someone tore...

WASHINGTON — It was the first public allegation that CBS News used forged memos in its report questioning President Bush's National Guard service — a highly technical explanation posted within hours of airtime citing proportional spacing and font styles. But it did not come from an expert in typography or typewriter history as some first thought. Instead, it was the work of Harry W. MacDougald, an Atlanta lawyer with strong ties to conservative Republican causes who helped draft the petition urging the Arkansas Supreme Court to disbar President Clinton after the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the Times has found.

Statement from the General President Regarding the Events in Huntington, WVThe International Union of Painters and Allied Trades believes in the fundamental right for civil discourse, freedom of speech and activism to support our candidates and issues. What happened in Huntington, West Virginia yesterday is an affront to everything we, as a union, pride ourselves to represent. We extend our apologies to the Parlock family, especially Sophia, for the distress one of our overzealous members caused them. I have personally taken steps to address this issue internally, and will take immediate disciplinary action to the full extent allowed under U.S....

Bush Poster ChildIf the picture of little 3-year-old Sophia Parlock crying after some Kerry-Edwards supporters tore up her Bush-Cheney poster got to you, well, you weren't the only one. President Bush and even first pup Barney were dismayed too, we hear. It happened at a West Virginia rally last week for Democratic running mate Sen. John Edwards, to which Phil Parlock brought his daughter. After seeing the picture of the tearful Sophia on her dad's shoulders, aides said the president was sending her a little note Friday along with a signed campaign poster and an autographed photo of the prez...

****************************** KERRY GOON MAKES 3-YEAR-OLD CRY Yet another “sign” that Kerry will go down in flames on November 2nd: Check out this photo of the cute little 3-year-old girl crying on her dad’s shoulders after having her “Bush-Cheney” sign ripped out of her hands and torn up by Kerry-Edwards supporters in West Virginia yesterday. http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/040916/480/wvrs10309162250 Not exactly the way to win friends and influence people, huh? The bonehead with the baseball cap on the wrong way, a smirk on his face and pieces of the sign in his hand is laughing at little Sophia. Takes a real tough guy to...

Bush Sign Ripping Staged Posted by Josh Rhoderick 10:35 AM, Politics & Government The story, according to Phil Parlock, goes like this: A West Virginia man said yesterday that Democrats stole his family's Bush-Cheney campaign signs at an event featuring Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards. "They just pounced on us," said Phil Parlock, who took his 11-year-old son, Alex, and 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, to the Democratic rally at Tri-State Airport in Huntington, W.Va. "She was crying; they were pushing and shoving her," said Mr. Parlock, a Huntington real estate agent. "She was scared." But there's more to it...
