On May 22, 1970, members of The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command (PFLP-GC) led by Ahmed Jebril, ambushed an Israeli school bus that was driving along the road between Avivim to Dovev in Israel. Twelve civlians were killed, among them eight children. Israel retaliated against the Palestinian strongholds along the border.
