A family is suing the city of Henderson, Nevada for violating their Third Amendment rights — the constitutional prohibition against quartering soldiers in a private home during peacetime without the owner’s consent. The Mitchell family says that’s essentially what happened when Henderson police allegedly arrested them for refusing to let officers use their homes for a “tactical advantage” in a domestic violence investigation into a neighbor, according to an official complaint. In the last 10 years, American forces have cleared cities house by house plenty of times. But they don't usually do that right here in the United States. This video shows a specific example of what it looks like when thousands of police and FBI agents descended on suburban America decked out in military gear. They had orders to clear a "20-block area" of the neighborhood, and systematically searched from door-to-door. The video shows police shouting at an innocent resident and barking at him repeatedly to keep his hands up.

MIDDLETOWN — Lawmakers are considering a measure that would make Connecticut the first state in the nation to mandate universal mental health assessments for school-age children. Senate Bill 374 — one of several relating to mental health policy in the aftermath of the Newtown attack — would require all public schoolchildren in grades 6, 8, 10 and 12 to undergo a behavioral health screening. The law would also apply to home-schooled children ages 12, 14 and 17. It makes no mention of private or parochial school students. In an action extraordinary for its blatant attack on free enterprise and taxpayers, the board of the California Public Employee Retirement System instructed its staff on Monday to research ways to restrict investments in companies that supply public services and thus, the board argues, replace some of CalPERS' 1.4 million members out of work.</p>
