The expression “crossing the Rubicon” refers to the actions of Julius Caesar in crossing the Rubicon River and marching on Rome. Roman armies were forbidden to do so. The rule was very practical. The Romans understood the danger of allowing a large armed force to march on the capital city. To allow this might spell the end of the republic. Former acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe, now a CNN contributor, said Tuesday on “Anderson Cooper 360” that the “situation in this country with firearms” was out of control and causing our children to be in danger. McCabe was reacting to three students being killed and six others injured in a shooting at Oxford High School in Michigan.
