White House press secretary Jen Psaki claimed Friday that President Biden didn’t intend to offend senators by likening them to George Wallace, Bull Connor and Jefferson Davis — but simply meant to compare their actions to those of the infamous white supremacists. Psaki was pressed at her regular briefing about Biden’s fiery rhetoric at a Tuesday speech in Atlanta, which unsuccessfully sought to convince Democratic senators to set aside the 60-vote legislative filibuster and pass election reforms with a bare majority.

Three yeshiva students were strip-searched Tuesday when visiting the Temple Mount, Temple Mount activists have reported. The students were reportedly pulled aside by a commander of the police unit for protection of holy sites. They were asked to remove clothing and their bodies were searched for an Israeli flag. The officer who performed the search apologized to the three for the invasive search. Many Israelis proudly wave flags on Tuesday, Independence Day. Police apparently were concerned that the sight of Israeli flags on the Temple Mount could offend Muslim sensibilities. .....

As we approach the 2012 presidential election, the issue of religion co-mingling with politics has become central. Momentarily, though, let's set that debate aside and accept, for better or worse, this is the way things currently work. Gov. Rick Perry of Texas has, early in his candidacy, outrun all other contenders for the Republican nomination when it comes to drawing Christianity into the mix. "Many," Perry claimed in 2008, "want to recognize Jesus as a good teacher, but nothing more. But why call him 'good' if he has lied about his claims of deity?" The "many" Perry specifically referred to...

SOUTHLAKE -- Chase Bank told a businessman to remove the Christmas tree he donated to a local branch because it could offend people. Antonio Morales, owner of Bellagio Day Spa in Southlake, had assembled and decorated a 9-foot-tall tree in the lobby of the Chase Bank branch at 1700 E. Southlake Boulevard as a favor to the branch manager, who is one of his clients. The tree remained in the lobby from the Monday before Thanksgiving until Tuesday. Morales said his friend called him Wednesday to tell him the tree had to go. She later showed him an e-mail from...

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) -- Democratic Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez says she didn't intend to offend anyone when she told a reporter that "the Vietnamese" and Republicans were trying to take her seat representing California's Orange County. Sanchez said Friday she "used a poor choice of words that some people have taken as offensive" in a Spanish-language interview with Jorge Ramos on Univision's Sunday morning show, "Al Punto."
  • Bush: Skipping opening ceremony would offend China

President Bush on Sunday defended his decision to attend the opening ceremony of the Summer Games in China, saying he does not “need the Olympics” to express his concerns regarding the country’s human rights record. While some world leaders have stated that they would skip the ceremony to highlight a Chinese crackdown in Tibet, Bush argues that he does not need to take such a step to address the issue. “I had the honor of dealing with the Chinese -- two Chinese presidents during my term, and every time I have visited with them I have talked about religious freedom...

New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) has long been rumored as desperately seeking the democratic nomination for president in 2008. And while many political observers fully expect the power hungry former First Lady to hit the campaign trail within only a few months of being re-elected as a US Senator in 2006, US News & World report claims to have a confirmation of sorts. From USNews.Com's Washington Whispers: Hillary's in… You don't have to take it from us about Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton 's desire to run for president. Her brothers, Hugh and Tony Rodham, say it's true. Friends...

07.12.04 | The Government is clearly on a full frontal attack against the media. Only today we heard: -The Minister of Information said that the Cabinet “evaluated” the promotion of destabilization by the media, citing his former employer RCTV and local newspaper El Nacional as promoters of destabilization who are “minimizing” the case making it look like the Government is violating human rights. Well, asked Antonio Lopez, or his parents what they think about this. Or the Guevara brothers. Or the last person who made a phone call to Antonio Lopez. It appears the right to silence people for political...

I recently finished reading a book for my college class. The book is entitled "Working with Words" and it is by Brian Brooks, James L. Pinson, and Jean Gaddy Wilson. The book is supposed to teach you the writer how to write using AP style. I was fine with the book until the 13th chapter. The subject drifts completely away from grammer, and the authors go into a unrelated diatribe on racism. Naturally being a conservative I was very upset by this, and will use this the next time I hear some liberal say that America's colleges aren't left leaning....

It seems major media cannot offend Catholics enough. ABC recently aired graphic sexual insults against God and jokes about the virgin birth of Jesus, the Church and the Eucharist on the Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher show. Particularly offensive were remarks found on the show's March 4 transcript, where comedian Jimmy Kimmel referred blasphemously to God as the father of Jesus. In the same episode, musician Kirk Franklin added, "we got to move people away from religion…And I think most people are taught a very oppressive thing. Got to go to Church, got to kneel, got to bow, got to...
