Offending Catholics at ABC
April 21, 2002
Posted on 04/21/2002 7:09:55 PM PDT by Coleus
It seems major media cannot offend Catholics enough. ABC recently aired graphic sexual insults against God and jokes about the virgin birth of Jesus, the Church and the Eucharist on the Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher show.
Particularly offensive were remarks found on the show's March 4 transcript, where comedian Jimmy Kimmel referred blasphemously to God as the father of Jesus. In the same episode, musician Kirk Franklin added, "we got to move people away from religion
And I think most people are taught a very oppressive thing. Got to go to Church, got to kneel, got to bow, got to take the cracker, got to stay away from this, got to do this, got to do that." (Politically Incorrect with Bill Maher, page 11, 03-04-02)
"It seems like it is open season on the Catholic Church," says campaign director Robert E. Ritchie. "We have no choice but to rally protesters, praying the rosary and peacefully protesting to defend Our Lady's honor."
Thousands of Catholics appeared for similar peaceful protests against the play Corpus Christi, the movie Dogma and other such blasphemies. Judging from the interest, Mr. Ritchie believes this protest might be the biggest ever.
There will be a massive June 22, 2002, rally of peaceful protest and reparation in front of ABC/Disney studios in Burbank, Calif.
Please send e-mail protests to ABC/Disney.
"A lot of people are offended by the show which has a huge audience." Mr. Ritchie added. "Not to say anything would send a message to ABC that Catholics don't really care about their Faith."

Despite all they say, it is all about abortion. The Catholic Church is a great spiritual force in the world, but it must be destroyed by the leftists because of its moral opposition to abortion. Leftists cannot tolerate dissent from their gospel of nothingness.

. . . sexual insults against God and jokes about the virgin birth of Jesus, the Church and the Eucharist. . . . "we got to move people away from religion
And I think most people are taught a very oppressive thing. Got to go to Church, got to kneel, got to bow, got to take the cracker, got to stay away from this, got to do this, got to do that." These remarks are offensive to more than just Roman Catholics. Lutherans (I'm one) likewise would find them offensive, as would other Christians.

Bill Maher? He's Jewish isn't he? What would ABC's reaction be if someone said anything remotely anti-Semitic about him?

Jimmy Kimmel referred blasphemously to God as the father of Jesus. That sounds like official church teaching to me.

Yeah, I didn't get that one, either. God is the Father of Jesus--that's essential to the Christian faith. He must have meant it in some other way.
Hey, is P.I. still around? I know it lost a lot of stations. Must be on life support. Time to pull the plug. If people just stop watching it, then it will go off the air completely.

Leftists cannot tolerate dissent from their gospel of nothingness. I agree it is a large part of the disdain for Catholicism, but that is also something that many protestants and evangelical protestants advocate (Pro-Life). I think the additional burden that Catholics have, as perceived by liberal media et al., is that it has the tradition and provides a very easy visible target as the cause celebre of anti-Christians.
We shouldnt take it personally as Catholics, we just visibly represent Christianity in general. Make no mistake, the media despis evangelicals even more as they in many instances align more conservatively as we Catholics do.But we have the easy target of the Vatican and the Pope, and "undemocratic" traditions, as the liberal media see it.

I guess it depends what he said. Never watch the show myself, so don't think I want to know. It will just make me mad.

You will never hear them speaking disrespectfully about Buddha. Also, you can't say ANYTHING bad about the religion of the terrorists who murdered everyone in the WTC.

"A lot of people are offended by the show which has a huge audience." Mr. Ritchie added. You've got to be kidding. I don't know anyone who watches it on a regular basis.

I think Maher calls himself an atheist.I look forward to the day when he calls himself a has-been.
To: Paul Atreides
Maher may call himself an atheist, but he goes beyond that with his utter disdain and obvious hatred for Christians and Catholics.

While I will still send them, I don't think letters to Disney will help that much. IMO the winnable battle here is to target companies who advertise on ABC.
