A New Jersey law that removes a requirement for teachers to pass a reading, writing and mathematics test for certification will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2025. The law, Act 1669, was passed by Democratic New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy as part of the state’s 2025 budget in June in an effort to address a shortage of teachers in the state... Individuals seeking an instructional certificate will no longer need to pass a “basic skills” test ... Just months earlier, Murphy signed a similar bill into law that created an alternative pathway for teachers to sidestep the testing requirement....

Democrat Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate John Fetterman once again appeared incoherent after giving a five-minute speech in Indiana County. Similar to his previous mishaps, Fetterman again confused Washington D.C. with New Jersey as he concluded his speech with a call for the voters to send him to the nation’s capital. “Eliminate the filibuster, get things done,” he struggled to say. After an awkward pause in which he appeared slightly confused, Fetterman then said, “Send us back to New Jersey. Send me to D.C. for you.” Several members of the audience could be heard chuckling upon hearing him utter New Jersey.
