The Chronicle of Higher Education recently released a report decrying the politicization of public higher education governance, entitled The New Order: How the Nation’s Partisan Divisions Consumed Public-College Boards and Warped Higher Education. The report says more about the tunnel vision that pervades the liberal media and academic establishment than it does about the real state of politics in academia. This is the 4th straight day that Republicans out-voted Democrats in early voting. It took 7 days, but Republicans finally cast more early votes (2,000) yesterday than Democrats. That, my friends, is excellent news. The current early vote (mail-ins + in-person) numbers are: Democrats= 1,038,752 (42.62%) Republicans= 691,174 (28.36%) Dem Lead: 347,578 Again, in 2016 when Trump won NC by 3.8 percentage points, at the end of early voting, the Democrats had a lead of 310,000 votes. North Carolina's mail-in ballot acceptance deadline can be pushed back, a U.S. Court of Appeals ruled Tuesday night, but opponents of a deadline extension could try to take their fight to the Supreme Court. “All ballots must still be mailed on or before Election Day,” the ruling states, according to the News & Observer. “The change is simply an extension from three to nine days after Election Day for a timely ballot to be received and counted."

At the beginning of NC early voting, Democrats were leading Republicans in returned mail ballots by roughly a 54% to 16% spread. That spread has now been reduced to 43.70% to 27.48% after 6 days of early, in-person voting (note: the Democrats have out-voted Republicans on all 6 days of in-person voting, but each day Republicans have cut the Democrats' raw vote margin). North Carolina can accept absentee ballots that are postmarked by Election Day for more than a week afterward, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday. The 4th Circuit Court of Appeals declined to block an extension for accepting the ballots that was announced in late September. The State Board of Elections decided then that absentee ballots could be accepted until Nov. 12 as long as they were mailed by Election Day, lengthening the timeframe from three to nine days. The change was made as part of a legal settlement with voting rights advocates.
