Former Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele on Friday warned that the tea party caucus is not happy with the rush to coronate Rep. Kevin McCarthy as majority leader. “Guys in Congress and gals rushed this thing through,” Steele said on MSNBC. “The base is not happy about it. They wanted to see a conservative — probably someone out of the tea party caucus — at least vie for the position. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) argued Thursday that he can bring an end to disunity and disarray in the House by restoring "red state" priorities that his chief rival for majority leader, Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.), may be unwilling or unable to pursue. Sessions emerged from a lunch with the Texas delegation strongly denying rumors that he was dropping out of the race and exuding confidence that he can beat McCarthy despite only having one week to campaign ahead of June 19 leadership elections. “We several times have found ourselves tangled in our ability to get all of our team together....

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) refused say whether he thinks former Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie (R) will be a good candidate for Virginia's Senate race, putting the National Republican Senatorial Committee vice chairman at odds with its chairman and many in his party.Cruz repeatedly refused to say what he thinks of Gillespie's background or chances as a candidate against Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va.)."I like Ed Gillespie, he is a friend of mine, he's a good man. That's ultimately a decision for the voters of Virginia," Cruz told The Hill on Thursday evening, hours after Gillespie entered the race.He demurred...
