New Jersey made history this month by becoming the fourth state in the nation to create an alternative option on its birth certificates beyond male and female. Starting Feb. 1, there is a new category on birth certificates -- "undesignated/ non-binary" -- also known as Gender X. The change is part of the newly-enacted "Babs Siperstein Law," which streamlines the process for transgender residents to change the gender on their New Jersey birth certificates.
