According to the United States General Social Survey, women’s overall level of happiness has dropped since 1972.  Two professors at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania released a paper exploring female happiness, “The Paradox of Declining Female Happiness,” this spring which garnered national press attention.   One of the major findings in this study is that women’s happiness has declined both compared to 35 years ago and compared to men’s happiness. Respected jewelers, like Tiffany & Co., and mass retailers, like Kay Jewelers, are trying to push a new trend--JEWELRY FOR MEN. Yup, today's Wall Street Journal reports on a Brad Pitt effect. Influenced by girlie-men celebs like Pitt, singer Lenny Kravitz, and actor Orlando Bloom, the Journal claims that, "Once considered a fringe market for rockers, rappers, gay men, and gangsters, men's jewelry is inching toward the mainstream." Two items, this week, are part of the continuing crisis: * USA Today's Sports Section has been running full-page ads, like the one on page 6C on Tuesday, for L'oreal's new men's beauty line, called, "Men's Expert."
