President Donald Trump made good on a long-time conservative goal in his first proposed budget Thursday morning, targeting the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and the National Endowments for the Arts and Humanities for complete elimination. Trump’s budget would zero out the $445 million budget for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a substantial source of funding for programming and broadcast operations on public TV stations and NPR radio stations nationwide, per the Washington Post. The budget would also eliminate the budgets for both national endowments, which stood at $148 million each in 2016, as well as $230 million for the Institute...
  • In the Name of NOLA-- Time to End National Endowment of the Arts ['VANITY'-for-GOD]

OK fellow FReepers. Here's the perfect time to eliminate National Endowment for the Arts. Is 'Pisschrist' more important than the people of NOLA? Bush said we need cuts to pay for NOLA rebuilding, and I can't think of a more frivolous and sickening waste of tax money than the NEA. Two birds with one stone. Tempt the left fall on their swords to say that the Corpus Christi play and fisting photos are more important than the victims of Katrina. What do you say, my fellow FReepers?

...Chávez has accused four Súmate leaders of treason.... Their crime, according to the president and his henchmen, is accepting funding from the Washington-based National Endowment for Democracy, a bipartisan agency that promotes democracy abroad. Chávez sees the NED as an organ of his enemy, the U.S. government. For several years now Chávez has been trying to pick a fight with the Bush administration by using hateful rhetoric. The administration, perhaps wisely, has largely ignored the noises coming from Caracas. But with four brave and innocent democrats accused of conspiring with the U.S. to overthrow the Venezuelan government, it's clearly time...

WASHINGTON: Seeking international support for the beleaguered democracy movement in Myanmar, US have said that restoration of people's rule in the country is Washington's priority objective in South-East Asia. Programmes aimed at organising the democratic opposition in Myanmar have been difficult in the face of the military junta's "tactics of terror, torture, intimidation and censorship," the State Department said in a report mandated by the US Congress. International pressure and support for the beleaguered democracy movement is essential for promoting change in Myanmar. "It is now more important than ever that we continue to provide sustained, targeted support for those...
  • With Better US Economy, Focus of Presidential Elections Likely to Shift to Iraq

President Bush's re-election hopes got a boost Friday when the Labor Department announced that the U.S. economy gained new jobs for the third consecutive month. But the good economic news was tempered by the loss of another U.S. military helicopter in Iraq and a new poll suggesting growing doubts among the American public about the president's handling of Iraq. Political analysts say the Bush White House should be encouraged by some recent government numbers pointing to surging economic growth and a drop in the unemployment rate. The president's political strategists long ago committed themselves to making sure George W. Bush...
