As of this writing, 6,400 people all over the world have died from the coronavirus. In the United States, 68 people have died. Some perspective: Chinese deaths (3,217) account for half of the worldwide total. If you add Italy (1,441) and Iran (724), two countries where many Chinese were allowed in until recently, that totals another 2,165. In other words, outside of China, Italy and Iran -- with 5,382 deaths collectively -- 1,018 people have died. There are 7.8 billion people in the world. Few Democrats and Republicans had any issues with the National Emergencies Act, passed in 1976 to give presidents the authority to declare emergencies in times of crisis. But since the president is now Donald Trump and the crisis is unchecked illegal immigration, suddenly members of his own party, as well as a growing number of Democrats, have lots of problems with the law — and they want to change it. Seems like the Koch Brothers still wield much power. The Hill reports that Republican leaders are currently crafting legislation that would curb the president’s powers during future national emergency declarations.

Three activists filed a lawsuit in federal court last week to block President Trump from sending alert messages directly to U.S. cellphones under a new system ran by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Politico reported on Monday that three New Yorkers – J.B. Nicholas, Kristine Rakowsky and Liane Nikitovich – argued in the new lawsuit that the system is a violation of their free speech rights and would also act as an unconstitutional seizure of their cellphones. So they tried a little experiment. The producers superimposed a tiny "CNN" logo on the upper left corner of the network's screen as it showed the shuttle breaking into pieces. Blip! The same logo appeared on Fox News Channel. Then they decided to abruptly switch cameras so a picture of correspondent Miles O'Brien appeared....
