A 30-year old off-duty Dallas police officer has been arrested and charged with manslaughter in the shooting death of 26-year-old Botham Shem Jean on Thursday night. Four-year Dallas police veteran Amber Guyger was taken into custody at 7:20 p.m., according to Kaufman County jail records. Guyger’s Bond was set at $300,000 and she posted bail less than an hour after being arrested, jail records stated. Moments earlier on Sunday, Jean’s family attorney Lee Merritt met with Dallas County District Attorney Faith Johnson presenting new evidence and demanding that Guyger be taken into custody.

A former Minneapolis police officer who shot and killed an Australian woman last summer after she called 911 to report a possible assault is scheduled to appear in court. Mohamed Noor is charged with third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter in the July 15 killing of Justine Ruszczyk Damond. An omnibus hearing will be held Tuesday in Hennepin County .... Questions abound after the Albuquerque Police Department released video footage of cops shooting and killing a homeless man whose alleged crime was camping in an unauthorized area. Police came upon Boyd while he was sleeping outside in the Sandia Foothills. Camping is not allowed in the area. He was instructed to accompany police down the mountain and seemed to agree to the demand. That’s when cops shot a flash grenade at him and sicked a dog on him. The Las Vegas police department was sued in federal court Thursday by the family of Erik Scott, which claims his civil rights were violated when officers shot and killed him at a Costco on July 10. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court for Nevada, names as defendants the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Sheriff Doug Gillespie, officers William Mosher, Joshua Stark and Thomas Mendiola as well as Costco Wholesale Corp. and Costco security officer Shai Lierly.

Police were called early Sunday to the home Manuel Salvador Morales Jr. shared with his parents because relatives said Morales was threatening himself with knives. Police spokesman Tom Nichols says two officers confronted Morales, who was armed and failed to comply with their commands. No additional details about the confrontation or how Morales was armed were released. Nichols says Officer Albert Riccardi fired two shots at Morales, who was hit twice in the torso and pronounced dead at a hospital.
