Toxicologist testifies that drugs did not kill George Floyd

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — A toxicologist testified Wednesday at the federal trial of three former officers charged with violating George Floyd’s civil rights that it wasn’t drug use, heart disease nor an agitated state known as “excited delirium” that caused Floyd’s death after officers pinned him to the pavement in May 2020.

Dr. Vik Bebarta, an emergency physician and toxicologist and professor at the University of Colorado in suburban Denver, bolstered the prosecution’s contention that Floyd died because of how Officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee down on the Black man’s neck.

Bebarta said he concluded that Floyd “died from a lack of oxygen to his brain” and that he had suffocated because his airway had been closed off. That was consistent with testimony from a lung specialist who said that Floyd could have been saved if officers had moved him into a position to breathe more easily.

Bebarta said Floyd did not die from the low levels of fentanyl and methamphetamine in his system, nor from his heart disease and high blood pressure. He said that on video from inside a convenience store before his fatal encounter with police, Floyd did not appear to be seriously intoxicated or experiencing an overdose. But he did not dispute a store clerk’s earlier testimony that Floyd seemed high.

“He was awake, walking communicating, walking quickly at times,” Bebarta said.

Both prosecutor Manda Sertich and Thao’s attorney, Robert Paule, questioned the doctor about the disputed condition of excited delirium. Bebarta said Floyd did not display any symptoms that doctors typically associate with the condition, such as high pain tolerance, superhuman strength and endurance. He said he’s probably seen at least 1,000 such patients over the years.

“He did not die from what would be referred to as excited delirium,” Bebarta testified.

Very convenient, but the Hennepin County Coroner’s Office ruled drug overdose from day #1. Republicans hold no offices in Hennepin County.

Wonder what his position would be on the number of deaths attributed to CCP virus would be.

This guy brought to the scene of the suicide death of a jumper would probably say it was not the fall that killed him, it was the sudden stop.

Not directly but it sure as heck didn’t help.

Alcohol, drugs impare decision making lower inhibitions.

Which means you can find yourself in situations you ordinarily wouldn’t.......wanna know how I know?

The videos have him saying he had trouble breathing before he was pinned down.

I believe that's why they had him lying on his back -- making it easier to breathe than if he was lying on his stomach. But St. Floyd ended that when he repeatedly kicked the officers with all his might while lying on his back.

The cops were in a no-win situation with a drugged up, fighting, counterfeiting big man doing DUI.

Nah, the fact that 3 mos previous to his death, he only had a bp of 217/160 and was in a hospital for a week because of his abundant health.

died because of how Officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee down on the Black man’s neck.

Which was also a maneuver trained by the MPD, and was in MPD instruction manuals.

That’s like saying that eating 5 lbs of bacon each morning didn’t kill someone. It was the cholesterol.

He knows what’s good for him. With all of the hate and open threats and intimidation, can we take anything at face value anymore?

so he says Fentynal Floyd didn’t die from drug use, I have a hard time believing a “professor at the University of Colorado”. I’m sure he thinks that “racism” is a public health crisis as well.

This doctor is an expert witness. The first question must be: Who is paying him to testify?

Because he who pays the piper calls the tune.

Reminds me of Running Scared with Gregory Hines and Billy Crystal when the captain asked them if they knew what killed the jumper:

Let me guess; cement poisoning? Deceleration trauma?

He had blocked arteries, a system full of drugs, and he spent ten or more minutes before he died wrestling with about four cops who were trying to get him into the police SUV. He kicked and shoved them away and strained to get himself out of the back seat. He was a big guy; they couldn’t restrain him and he refused to cooperate. He said he couldn’t stay in the police vehicle, that he was claustrophobic. He fought them even while handcuffed and they almost fell down trying to get him in the back seat.

The footage before he was out lying on the ground showed all of this. This kind of extreme physical exertion for that length of time could easily bring on a heart attack in someone in his condition. That was the defense’s contention.

When you’re having a heart attack, one symptom is that you feel like you can’t breath; some have described it as a feeling of doom. George Floyd brought it on himself.

You can find an “expert” in any field to say anything you want for money, power or fame. I saw the initial tox report and the numbers don’t lie. He was high AF with enough drugs in him to kill a rhino.

Complete and total BS.

Floyd had multiple times the lethal dose of fentanyl AND had Covid. He repeatedly said he couldn’t breathe long long before he was on the ground.

I will agree with the above.
