  • Did E. Jean Carroll Admit Her Real Motivations for Her Accusations Against Trump?

    E. Jean Carroll’s accusations against Trump were dubious at best, yet Trump’s denial of her claims just resulted in a jury awarding Carroll ridiculously high punitive damages. Carroll accused Trump of sexually assaulting her nearly thirty years ago with a story that sounds like she lifted it entirely from an episode of “Law & Order: SVU.” The time between the alleged assault and her decision to go public with it certainly raises many questions about her true motivations. It also appears that she isn’t being shy about what this is really about — and it’s not about accountability for an...
  • Want to achieve your goals? Get angry, say researchers

While often perceived as a negative emotion, anger can also be a powerful motivator for people to achieve challenging goals in their lives, according to research. "People often believe that a state of happiness is ideal," said Heather Lench, Ph.D. "Previous research suggests that a mix of emotions, including negative emotions like anger, result in the best outcomes." To better understand the role of anger in achieving goals, researchers conducted a series of experiments involving more than 1,000 participants and analyzed survey data from more than 1,400 respondents. In each experiment, researchers elicited either an emotional response (such as anger,...
  • No pandering to snowflakes here! Motivational posters from the 1920s that taught workers to pull their socks up

A fascinating collection of 1920s 'life-coaching' posters which were designed to encourage good behaviour in the workplace have come to light. They were produced by the now-defunct print company Parker-Holladay who created the well-dressed character Bill Jones to dispense pearls of wisdom and have emerged for sale for £3,000 with Ewbank's Auctions, of Woking, Surrey. The 'productivity at work' posters were placed in factories and offices across Britain and carried messages about self-control and avoiding confrontation. They were so successful that they were used in America and Canada.

In the past, confidence was not my strong suit. Somewhere along the line I lost my mojo. But everyone wants their mojo, so we look for ways to at least feel that we’ve retrieved it. That’s what I did. In my late twenties I read a book you may have heard of called The Art of the Deal, written by a guy you may have heard of 😉 Note: This is not about politics, I’m simply recounting a story that can help anyone—whatever your beliefs. I have never before or since felt such a surge of confidence from reading a...

I was head coach of a local swim team and was working with a 12-year-old girl who had enormous talent, beautiful technique and a gift for moving effortlessly through the water. I was pushing her hard . . . [but] Nothing would make her really try. So I called my friend Larry Liebowitz, a wonderful coach I knew . . . “Dan,” he said, “you want this more than she does.” I frowned, and realized he was right. Then he added the kicker: “You’ve got to realize, there’s nothing morally wrong with not wanting to swim.” . . . I...

The Chicago Cubs are one of 26 Major League Baseball teams to employ sports psychologists or mental-skills coaches. As in the workplace, the game’s great myth is that talent always wins. In reality, athletes’ hidden game, the mental one, can override some deficits in skill, says Bob Tewksbury, a former All-Star pitcher and current mental-skills coach for the San Francisco Giants. Players must develop the ability to block out distractions, says Mr. Tewksbury, author of “Ninety Percent Mental..." Ken Ravizza, a mental-skills coach for the Chicago Cubs, teaches players to stay aware of their mental state by imagining an inner...

Declaring that “you cannot defeat what you don’t understand,” Secretary of State John Kerry on Thursday suggested some reasons why tens of thousands of young people are flocking to join terrorist groups in the Middle East. Among some of the likely motivations he listed were deprivation, a desire to avenge the death of a loved one, a response to “acts of discrimination or repression,” the desire to belong to a group, and “rebellion against anonymity.” Absent from the list was any belief – misguided or otherwise – that joining a terrorist group was an Islamic duty or demonstration of religious...

BENGHAZI, Libya, Sept 12 (Reuters) - An American staff member of the U.S. consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi has died following fierce clashes at the compound, Libyan security sources said on Wednesday. "One American staff member has died and a number have been injured in the clashes," Abdel-Monem Al-Hurr, spokesman for Libya's Supreme Security Committee, said, adding that he did not know the exact number of injured and could not say what the cause of death was. Armed gunmen attacked the compound on Tuesday evening, clashing with Libyan security forces before the latter withdrew as they came...

Few of the lectures I give on political technology and campaigning make people as agitated as this one. None is more important. Simply put, politics is not about the common good, appealing to men’s better angels, nor serving our Lord. These may be your motivations. I pray they are mine. Occasionally, they will be a politician’s motivation. Politics is the adjudication of power. It is the process by which people everywhere determine who rules whom. In America, through a brilliant system of rewards and punishments, checks and balances, and diffusion of authority, we have acquired a habit and history of...

An Inspiring Video I was directed to this video that was produced on November 1, 2011. It is a briefing to the Cadet Wing at the U.S. Air Force Academy by General Mark Welsh. General Welsh is the Commander, U.S. Air Forces in Europe. He is an Academy graduate of '76 and was at one time Commandant there. This video is about 50 minutes in length. General Welsh is an amazing speaker. No teleprompter or notes. The only prompt he has is a monitor to view the slides that are being projected behind him. For this upcoming Veterans Day, I...

FORWARD OPERATING BASE SALERNO, Afghanistan, Oct. 5, 2009 – The Army is rich in history and legacy, and most soldiers can answer questions regarding basic knowledge such as when the Army was founded. But a 25th Infantry Division noncommissioned officer here takes historical knowledge a step further to draw motivation for his daily responsibilities. Army Staff Sgt. Tyler Fosheim, a paratrooper, considers himself a history buff. He said he uses common sense and the Army’s legacy for insight and inspiration in his NCO duties as a platoon sergeant for Company D, 3rd Battalion, 509th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat...
