Democrats Wednesday strongly rejected President Bush’s comparison of the Vietnam War to the conflict in Iraq, saying that drawing parallels is inaccurate and irresponsible.

A Democratic Party blogger says he wants to shoot Rush Limbaugh and is calling for volunteers to assassinate rock star Ted Nugent, who champions the Second Amendment. Hart Williams, a former writer for porn magazine Hustler and who now toils for the Democratic Daily, was waxing incoherent about a recent Wall Street Journal op-ed by Nugent, complaining that it was likely ghost-written. "How we can remain 'civil' in the face of this is beyond my ken," wrote Williams. "I will only reiterate what I've said WHEN they manage to inevitably push their litany of hatespeak into actual bloodletting, and full-blown...

I’m not backing off. I tried to remove myself from the political realm of the US, what BushCo is turning into an Evil Empire, but the blatant audacity of George commuting Scooter’s sentence (he’s not ruling out a full pardon ---and you know he will) has dragged me kicking and screaming back in. I can’t sit back and let this BushCo drag our country further down into the murky quagmire of Fascism and violence, taking the rest of the world with them! I have sat quietly back these past five weeks as the slaughter in Iraq sorrowfully surges along with...

He's begging the anarchist and black bloc marchers to be uncharacteristically peaceful: Only Nonviolence Will End the War On March 17, a huge mass of people will gather at the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, D.C., and march from there to the Pentagon for the cause of impeachment and peace. A handful of pro-war people, some volunteer and some probably paid to be there, will stage a counter-demonstration. This relatively tiny pro-death contingent will garner 50 percent of the media coverage if those on the side of peace do everything right. If a single demonstrator for peace turns violent in any...

Only after watching the epic movie "300"--about free men of the West willing to die at Thermopylae rather than kneel to an Eastern king--did I read the reviews. I'm conflicted about the film, but the reviews were quite entertaining. Especially the reviews that were so turgid with praise, focusing on the rippling chests and rippling abdomens of the near-naked Spartan warriors, the slo-mo blood globules and the thrusting, thrusting, thrusting of the spears. OK, OK, I get it. Warnography is hard to define, but you know it when you see it. Some ripped the movie, including one East Coast reviewer...

My daughter came home frightened to death after her "physics" class was shown the Al Gore movie. I would love for FReepers who have good source material to help us refute her teacher. The teacher is a rabid democrat and obviously shoved this down the kids' throats. The class are kids, ranging in ages of 16 to 18 (juniors and seniors). Any links to printable material would be greatly appreciated.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Sen. Barbara Boxer on Thursday promised major policy shifts on global warming, air quality and toxic-waste cleanup as she prepares to head the U.S. Senate's environmental committee. ''Time is running out, and we need to move forward on this,'' Boxer said of global warming during a conference call with reporters. ''The states are beginning to take steps, and we need to take steps as well.''

***Actual comments from www.democraticunderground.com:*** "Evidence suggests Iran gassed the Kurds as an act of war, and in any event, the US Government has killed more Iraqis than Saddam's regime ever did." "The US is complicit in the making of Saddam, and...Bush and his corporate fascists have butchered hundreds of thousands of people so that they could secure the fortunes of thier elitist families and friends. There is little difference between the two - oh, except the latter controls the propaganda machine." "If this is what Saddam deserves then a whole bunch of Americans deserve the same thing, for exactly the...

Republican officials filed a lawsuit Thursday seeking to have Democrat Jerry Brown disqualified from the state attorney general race because he doesn't meet a basic requirement for the post. The Brown campaign dismissed the claims as baseless. At issue is a requirement that candidates be admitted to practice before the state Supreme Court for at least five years immediately preceding the election. According to the State Bar's Web site, Brown was admitted to the bar in 1965, went inactive in 1992, reactivated in 1996, went inactive again in 1997 and has been an active member from 2003 to the present....

A U.S. based environmental magazine that both former Vice President Al Gore (http://gristmill.grist.org/print/2006/9/19/11408/1106?show_comments=no ) and PBS newsman Bill Moyers, for his October 11th global warming edition of “Moyers on America” titled “Is God Green?” (http://www.grist.org/news/maindish/2006/05/09/roberts/index.html ) have deemed respectable enough to grant one-on-one interviews to promote their projects, is now advocating Nuremberg-style war crimes trials for skeptics of human caused catastrophic global warming. Grist Magazine’s staff writer David Roberts called for the Nuremberg-style trials for the “bastards” who were members of what he termed the global warming “denial industry.” Roberts wrote in the online publication on September 19, 2006, "When...

New Haven, Conn. -- Democrat Ned Lamont said Wednesday the U.S. is weaker because of the war in Iraq backed by rival Sen. Joe Lieberman, and he called for shifting forces to Afghanistan and elsewhere. "We have sacrificed our daughters and sons and our treasure in a war we didn't have to fight," Lamont said. "We have ignored the real threats and security needs in the war we should be fighting, the one against the terrorists. ... Senator Lieberman believes that President Bush has it right in Iraq. I believe that he's dangerously wrong." The Democrat, who upset the three-term...

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan has fantasized about going back in time and killing "an infant" George W. Bush, thereby preventing the war in Iraq. That's according to her upcoming book "Peace Mom," in which Sheehan also says she regrets voting for John Kerry, who left her "unimpressed." Radar magazine reports Sheehan calls Sen. John McCain a liar for denying that he told her that her son will probably end up having died "for nothing," and calls Sen. Hillary Clinton "a conservative in liberal clothing," adding, "We don't need another power monger in the White House."

(Greenwich-AP, Sept. 9, 2006 6:05 PM) _ It'll be a battle of big names as high-profile supporters come out over the next several weeks for U-S Senator Joe Lieberman and Democratic Senate candidate Ned Lamont. Grammy-nominated singer Moby, a frequent campaigner for Democrats and a Darien native, has offered to hold a concert or other help for Lamont to bring out the vote. They met at a recent Hurricane Katrina fund-raiser. He's said on his Web site that Lamont's party primary defeat of Lieberman was, quote, "awesome." Meanwhile, Republican New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg is expected to headline a...

A loose coalition of liars, profiteers, political panderers, conspiracy theorists, anti-Semitics, terrorist sympathizers, cyber thrill seekers, anti-Americans, and the mentally ill is growing and congealing in America. They allege terrorists did not attack the United States on 9/11; President Bush and the “neocons” did it or the Jews did it or both did it. Their fallback theory is the Bush administration extensively knew about the 9/11 plot by terrorists and just let 9/11 happen so they could aggressively pursue a war on terror. For the conspiracy coalition's main claim, they have virtually conjured from the thin blue 9/11 air a...

The Democratic-controlled Legislature is on the verge of sending Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger a bill that would create a state-run universal health care system, testing him on an issue that voters rate as one of their top concerns in this election year. On a largely party-line 43-30 vote, the Assembly approved a bill by state Sen. Sheila Kuehl, D-Santa Monica, that would eliminate private medical insurance plans and establish a statewide health insurance system that would provide coverage to all Californians. The state Senate has already approved the plan once and is expected this week to approve changes that the Assembly...

In a private meeting at her Chappaqua, N.Y., home on Friday, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton offered to help Ned Lamont in his battle to unseat Senator Joseph I. Lieberman by sponsoring a fund-raiser, campaigning by his side and lending him one of her top political strategists. That strategist, Howard Wolfson, said Mrs. Clinton wanted to throw her considerable political weight behind Mr. Lamont because the national Republican Party “is clearly invested in Ned Lamont’s defeat.” “I think they are going to do what they can to see him defeated,” Mr. Wolfson said, adding that he was particularly concerned with “Bush-Cheney...

With only three days left to reverse the course of the Democratic primary race, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman is scaling back on the ambitious ground operation that his supporters had hoped would pull him past his challenger, Ned Lamont, in Tuesday’s election, people affiliated with the campaign said. In East Hartford on Friday, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman played down poll results. Mr. Lieberman, slipping badly in recent polls, still has solid organizational support. Major unions are planning phone banks on his behalf. Firefighters are taking the day off to drive older voters to polling stations. Black churches are distributing literature...

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) held its 22nd annual gala dinner and awards ceremony, “Bridges to Equality,” at Moscone Center South on July 29. Ticket sales supported HRC’s political work to make certain that LGBT Americans are ensured of their basic equal rights, to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all. Feingold said “Iraq continues to be a mistake; it continues to hurt our national security; and we should withdraw our troops from Iraq within the next year,” he said. “Every one of us should not ask for but demand...

Michael Schiavo stumbled over the name of the man he was in Connecticut to support Friday, but after fighting Congress for the right to disconnect his brain-damaged wife's feeding tube, he had no problem remembering whom he was campaigning against.
