I collaborated with the late James A. Michener on his South African novel, The Covenant and later went on to write my own epic on Brazil. My plan for A Novel of America is to follow the same plan Jim Michener and I used in crafting our books, with a key difference of letting these multilayered tasks unfold on the Web. <p>WATERFOWL hunters got some good news this week with the announcement that the daily bag limits for Canada geese hunting during September have been increased in almost all of New York's waterfowl hunting zones. The increase, from five geese per day to eight, will help local authorities reduce the numbers of these birds, who have become numerous and a nuisance in many parts of the state.</p>

James Michener Reflecting on lives lost, lives saved in 1945 A LETTER TO A PACIFIC VETERAN Saturday, August 16, 2003 The following letter was written in October of 1995 by author James Michener to Austin attorney Martin Allday. Allday, former chairman of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, was wounded in action on Okinawa in 1945. In October 1995, Michener, also a Pacific veteran, wrote Allday a letter about President Truman's decision to use atomic weapons to end World War II.
