Shortcomings in Republican efforts during the elections are a reason Michael Steele should not continue as chairman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), a senator said in an interview Sunday. "Our ground game, was not as strong as it could've been. We were outmanned on the ground," Sen. Jim DeMint said on Fox New Sunday. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) said Steele should be ousted because Republicans could have done a better job reaching voters.

Former Michigan Republican Party Chairman Saul Anuzis announced this morning that he will run to be chairman of the Republican National Committee, becoming the first -- though almost certainly not the last -- candidate in the race against Michael Steele. "We cannot be misled by our victories this year," Anuzis wrote in an announcement posted on his blog. "Chairman Steele's record speaks for itself. He has his way of doing things. I have mine." Anuzis, clearly hoping to emerge as the choice of the anti-Steele forces within the 168 member Republican National Committee added that "I will NOT strive to...

A prominent Michigan Republican is running against party chairman Michael Steele. Saul Anuzis made his plans known Friday in an e-mail in which he says the party can win in 2012 only if the chairman steps out of the limelight and allows the candidates to become the voice and face of Republicans.

House Minority Whip Eric Cantor of Virginia and other Republicans have called for stripping NPR of federal funding after it fired analyst Juan Williams last week over comments he made about Muslims. But while Republican National Chairman Michael Steele disagreed with NPR's decision, he said Sunday he wasn't sure the issue should be made a campaign issue nine days before the election. “I don’t know if it’s a legitimate part of the campaign. I think what NPR did was overreaching,” Steele said during an appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

WEBTODAY-- Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele threw another TEA Party candidate under the bus—the Fire Pelosi Bus! The Fire Pelosi bus—with Michael Steele in it—literally drove within 3 minutes of the headquarters of conservative TEA Party congressional candidate Dr. Marvin Scott, a feisty challenger candidate opposing another black man, ultra liberal incumbent André Carson, without stopping! Why? Was it because Dr. Scott’s Democrat opponent more accurately reflected the views of GOP national leadership? Highly unlikely, because it was Democrat Andre Carson who falsely smeared Tea Partiers in Washington DC as racists, lying that they shout the "N" word at...

Excerpt... Late last month when the RNC announced that it would cut its get out the vote (GOTV) program, conservative groups around the country adjusted and decided to run their own GOTV programs. But what does the RNC’s decision really mean? “The Republican National Committee has decided against sending Congressional staffers out on the campaign trail for traditional get-out-the-vote efforts, focusing its resources instead on mailings and other last-minute pre-election efforts, the committee confirmed Tuesday.” Lately, it has seemed like the RNC has gone the way of the Obama administration and ignored the will of the people. With serious missteps...

Are Sarah Palin and Michael Steele an item? Not romantically, of course. But Palin’s conspicuous support for the embattled RNC chairman in recent weeks has a lot of Republican heads turning. First, she appeared on a RNC fundraising mailer in July. Then she gave a shout-out to Steele on Fox News, painting him as more in tune with the conservative base than other members of the GOP establishment. “More power to Michael Steele,” she said. Then, the RNC announced Palin would be headlining two fundraising “rallies” with Steele in October. Meanwhile, Steele has made several overtures to conservatives, including warmly...

We should have dumped Michael Steele months ago, but we were talked out of our demands by our conservative “leaders.” Now look at we are dealing with! To win back the House and the Senate in November we will have to fight our way past a number of challenges. We’ll have to overcome a sycophantic media; the power of incumbency and the Democrats “uncanny” ability to “find” votes in close elections. These obstacles are to be expected. They are part of politics. Nevertheless, there is one problem we should not have to deal with and that’s Michael Steele, our affirmative...

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is putting some political distance between the national Republican Party and Arizona Republicans who enacted a tough immigration-enforcement law earlier this year. "Let's be clear. The actions of one state's governor is not a reflection of an entire country, nor is it a reflection of an entire political party," the outspoken RNC chairman told an interviewer from Univision, the highly rated Spanish-language cable TV network. "The governor and the people of Arizona made a decision that they thought was in their best interest. And that's the beauty of a republic. That's who we are."...

The Republican National Committee's $5.3 million war chest for the final stretch of the midterm election campaign—which is half the amount of its Democratic counterpart—is causing anxiety among some GOP operatives. The figure doesn't necessarily spell disaster for Republican candidates vying in November's elections. The RNC is just one in a network of groups that support the GOP's election drive, and many of those are drawing strong support. The Republican Governors Association, for example, has been raising a record amount of money to spend on the elections—about $28 million this year, including $1 million from News Corp., which owns The...

Politico has a article on the financial trouble of the Republican National Committee, complete with a pic of Michael Steele begging to be the center of a caption contest. So here's what Politico is saying: The Republican National Committee has just over $5 million in the bank for the final stretch of the 2010 midterm election campaign, according to an unannounced filing with the FEC disclosed Friday night. The report also indicates that the national party headed by embattled chairman Michael Steele is carrying just over $2 million in debt. ... The RNC's money woes have many party leaders and...

Here is video of Republican Strategist Ed Rollins on Face the Nation with Bob Schieffer, where he was asked if the Republican Party needed to “do something” about RNC Chair Michael Steele. Schieffer had pointed out they had Ed Gillispe on because Steele would not come on the program because he now has a “bunker” mentality with all the controversy surrounding him. Rollins said there is “no time” to do anything about Steele right now, but added there is no doubt that Steele has “obviously been a disaster,” and has “failed miserably.”

Here is video of RNC Chair Michael Steele speaking to a GOP Summer gathering in Kansas City yesterday, where he urged the crowd to, “Fire Nancy Pelosi – Retire Harry Reid – Give us our country back!” It’s time.

Actually, I think he might be getting a bad rap on this one. Although, at this point, who knows what the hell goes on inside the RNC brain trust. An RNC intern sent a message late last month to at least one ambassador on behalf of Neil Alpert, a senior finance aide, with little explanation. “As you know, the November election is just 103 days away and the chairman would like to extend to you an invitation to sit down either at the RNC or at your embassy to discuss the upcoming 2010 midterm elections,” wrote Christopher Kelleher, a finance...

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele is once again puzzling journalists and fellow party members. What happened this time? An RNC intern sent emails to the offices of foreign diplomats offering them a private meeting with Steele in advance of the November congressional elections. For what possible purpose, everyone is wondering, would Steele reach out to foreign ambassadors? Here's the email and, below, what observers are saying, with a fair share of the mockery that usually comes with Steele coverage. "As you know, the November election is just 103 days away and the chairman would like to extend to you...

The Republican National Committee is trying to set up meetings between Chairman Michael Steele and foreign ambassadors to the United States, according to an email obtained by POLITICO – an effort that has puzzled diplomats as well as fellow Republicans. An RNC intern sent a message late last month to at least one ambassador on behalf of Neil Alpert, a senior finance aide, with little explanation... “In his role as RNC Chairman, he meets with leaders in Washington and throughout the country,” said Heye. But one European embassy official told POLITICO his embassy had received the generic-sounding message in a...

Intraparty rift intensifies over treasurer's disclosures The vicious infighting at the Republican National Committee escalated over the weekend, with an ally of RNC Chairman Michael S. Steele warning the party's treasurer of legal consequences if he did not stop making a fuss over erroneous financial disclosures to the Federal Election Commission. New Mexico RNC member Patrick J. Rogers told Treasurer Randy Pullen on committee letterhead that his disclosures about millions of dollars in unreported debt "are covered by attorney-client privilege or the fiduciary requirements of corporate officers." At one point in his letter, Mr. Rogers, who is Mr. Steele's appointee...
