Steele ally threatens legal action at RNC

Intraparty rift intensifies over treasurer's disclosures

The vicious infighting at the Republican National Committee escalated over the weekend, with an ally of RNC Chairman Michael S. Steele warning the party's treasurer of legal consequences if he did not stop making a fuss over erroneous financial disclosures to the Federal Election Commission.

New Mexico RNC member Patrick J. Rogers told Treasurer Randy Pullen on committee letterhead that his disclosures about millions of dollars in unreported debt "are covered by attorney-client privilege or the fiduciary requirements of corporate officers."

At one point in his letter, Mr. Rogers, who is Mr. Steele's appointee to the RNC's powerful executive committee, tells Mr. Pullen that the "dissemination of sensitive information under the circumstances (as I understand them) appears problematic as a legal matter."

The Rogers letter reached Mr. Pullen on Sunday as the treasurer was preparing to inform budget committee members for the first time that he had uncovered on July 22 "approximately $700,000 to $1 million in undisclosed expenditures, some dating back to March."

The amount comes in addition to more than $7 million in debts that were not reported to the FEC for April and May. Mr. Pullen filed amended returns with the FEC last month and notified the RNC budget panel...

Delaying debt reporting makes the RNC's fundraising bottom line look better than it is, and gives prospective donors the impression that the RNC is managing its finances well...

Mr. Pullen immediately responded with his own missive to the panel. He has told Mr. Steele and his allies privately that he is sick of their efforts to keep him from information about what the RNC owes vendors...

No money should be given to the RNC while they have Steele as the Chairman.

Steele has to be a democrat plant.

I will not argue that point...I will go as far to say that there are many more in office today that could be waiting for the right time to destroy their reputation for the good of the Democrats Marxist agenda....(see the Illinois/Chicago GOP as a possible example)

” Steele has to be a democrat plant. “

If he isn’t, he might as well be. Look for him to hurt the Republican Party right before the November elections.

Steele was a major mistake. The guy got the appointment and set about destroying his own and the RNC’s credibility from day one.

I was dead wrong about that one. I had seen him on FoxNews for years, and he always seemed level headed. I supported him being the head of the RNC.

Hanging head in shame...

Steele, please recover some shred of decency and step down.

No money should be given to the RNC while they have Steele as the Chairman. continue to fail to promote a conservative agenda. Steele is a symptom, not the disease.

Agreed 100%. this TCBEM Steele is the worst excuse as a chairman the RNC has ever had. He needs to go NOW before he does anymore damage......or flat out sabotage, to the RNC.

Steele is a symptom, not the disease.

This needs to be repeated ad nauseum. It’s the whole damn bunch of them that has the wrong agenda.

"Steele is a symptom, not the disease."

No. 'Symptoms' are subjective.
Steele is a 'sign' of sickness.
He needs to be excised, like any abcess or tumor.

The scary thing is more people are whining about Tom Tancredo running as an Independent in Colorado....and say nothing about taht idiot Michael Steele.

Would you stay with a party that is more concerned with how it looks in front of the NAACP....or serving its conservative base.

Those bitching about Tancredo’s leaving...are not conservatives. When you have a Black Liberal running your party....it ain’t conservative
