A prominent Michigan Republican is running against party chairman Michael Steele.

Saul Anuzis made his plans known Friday in an e-mail in which he says the party can win in 2012 only if the chairman steps out of the limelight and allows the candidates to become the voice and face of Republicans.

Sadly, Steele has proven himself to be a real clown.

Azunis isn’t perfect, and result in Michigan have been mixed, but he’d be a pretty safe choice and much better than Steele or a subversive like Gleason.

I think this is a mistake. We are lucky to have him. Democrats will be rooting for Steele to go, so will the liberal media and so will close minder Republicans that are out of touch... I’ve been there before Mr Steele. You know what is going on.

Sarah Palin

Sorry, but Governor Palin is busy preparing for a 2012 POTUS run.

GOP Chairman is a waster of her leadership skills and is a waste of her considerable talents and abilities.

Steele does not seem to understand that just GETTING the job is not enough- he actually has to do something.

And preferably be effective.

He has been not effective at all.

We won big this year IN SPITE OF the GOP party big-wigs... and some times having to run AGAINST them.

Imagine if we have someone on our side.

like RUSH LIMBAUGH!!! We've got to get him active wielding actual power.

I do like that statement.

You are right! Steele may be an incompetent fool but he is a honest RINO free incompetent fool..... The some of the guys lining up for the most part has Establishment ties, the GOP elitists want to close the door on any grassroots/conservative insurrection

Not a Steele fan but right now I see no better stepping up. He’s at least willing to let the Tea Party in the door. These other guys will do everything to throw them out.

I for one haven’t forgotten that Steele’s first act as chairman was to apologize for Rush Limbaugh.

Former Ohio SOS Ken Blackwell ran against Steele the last time. He is a conservative and also Black like Steele. If Blackwell runs and wins, it will eliminate the headlines like "Racist Republicans oust Black RNC Chairman."

I think Steele has done a much better job in the recent months.

Have Steele and Palin have formed some kind of alliance?

You say that as though he is powerless NOW! He wields enormous power by his ability to educate and shape opinion. From that follows influence on those that write legislation. While his power is not absolute, it is considerable.

Ken Blackwell was the best candidate last time.
And he would be the best this time too..
I would support him wholeheartedly too, cc.

No, I did not say “as if” he has no power- he has indirect power (and a lot of it)

I want him to have ACTUAL power - and USE IT

You gotta be kidding me. Anuses may be one of the worst former state party chairmen in the country. The guy is nothing but a Slick Willard plant whose goal would be to sabotage Palin’s candidacy in 2012. He makes Steele look like Lee Atwater.
