A Golden Valley Menards shut down Thursday amid protests over an employee’s work-related death. According to the Golden Valley Police Department, a male employee died Thursday morning when a pallet of lumber struck his forklift. He was dead by the time first responders arrived. A woman who identified herself as the decedent’s sister and a group of protesters later arrived at the location and were angered that the store was still open. “This needs to close down. Look at all these workers. Look at all these workers and nobody gives a flying f*** my brother just died working the job,”...

ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A single mother in Kent County is calling for Menards to reconsider a policy that prevented her from shopping with her kids on Mother’s Day. “As soon as the doors opened, I was approached by … an employee in a mask … and she said, ‘You can’t shop here with your kids.’ And I was just like, ‘What?’ And she said, ‘We’re not allowing children in at this point,'” Neisa, who asked to be identified only by her first name, told News 8 Monday. She said she and her two kids were attempting to buy...

WEST BEND, WI—Kraig Sadownikow doesn’t look like an anti-corporate crusader. The mayor of West Bend, Wisconsin, stickers his pickup with a “Don’t Tread on Me” snake on the back window, a GOP elephant on the hitch, and the stars-and-stripes logo of his construction company across the bumper. His fiscal conservatism is equally well billboarded: In the two hours we spent at City Hall and cruising West Bend in his plush truck, Sadownikow twice mentioned the 6 percent he has shaved off the Wisconsin city’s operating budget since becoming mayor in 2011, and stressed its efforts to bring more business to...

The oppo researchers are out in droves and they’ve got their sights set on the GOP frontrunners as usual. This time the diligent diggers are looking at some hefty donations to Wisconsin Club for Growth by John Menard Jr., a wealthy business owner, which may have worked to the benefit of Governor Scott Walker. So a little more than three years ago, when Menard wanted to back Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker — and help advance his pro-business agenda — he found the perfect way to do so without attracting any attention: He wrote more than $1.5 million in checks...

About halfway down a Facebook page devoted to organizing boycotts of companies associated with deep-pocket political contributors to Gov. Scott Walker, there was this sobering comment: "I don't think I can be part of this anymore," wrote Mary Possin, a small-business owner in Monona. Possin said she couldn't support the page's directions that consumers not buy products from businesses including Johnsonville Sausage, Sargento, Menards and M&I Bank. "Has anyone considered the impact on the workers of these businesses? They will be the ones who are hurt," Possin added, noting small businesses that carry boycotted products would be most vulnerable. "The...

Posted: Sat May 8th, 2010 12:31 pm Quote Reply I had some shopping to do today and wanted to price out meterials for a tile job at home. Went to walmart, farm and fleet, and target with no problems and not even any weird looks really. Then I headed over to menards. I was in for awhile and covered pretty much the whole store getting prices. I talked to a couple workers without incident and then stopped and looked through a tile book. I was just headin for the door when a guy from "menards loss prevention" comes up to...

Posted on Sun, Feb. 13, 2005 Menards blames Wisconsin officials for plant moving to Minnesota Associated Press EAU CLAIRE, Wis. - Menard Inc. says the state has forced it to move a local manufacturing plant to Minnesota because it won't issue a building permit. The Eau Claire (WI)-based home improvement retailer will move an Eau Claire manufacturing plant to Belgrade, Minn., where it will employ 80 to 100 people. "It is certainly no secret that there are certain agencies here in Wisconsin that have been awfully difficult, if not impossible, to work with on business issues," Menards spokeswoman Dawn Sands...
