Baltimore police say they are investigating a witness account that a group of black youths beat a Hispanic man near Patterson Park Sunday while saying, "This is for Trayvon." A witness posted the account on a community Facebook page, and police confirmed they are looking into whether the suspects' reaction to the verdict in the Florida trial of George Zimmerman played a part in the incident. A police report on the beating does not mention the alleged comments. Sgt. Eric Kowalczyk, a police spokesman, declined to go into further detail.

Last night Trayvon Martin's friend Rachel Jeantel gave CNN her first interview since testifying in the George Zimmerman murder trial. Author, poet, and activist Maya Angelou was shaken by the verdict of the George Zimmerman trial, saying it shows “how far we have to go” as a country. “That one man, armed with a gun can actually profile a young man because he is black and end up shooting him dead…It is so painful,” Angelou said in an interview with TIME Monday.

“It was gruesome.” That’s how one witness described what happened in Oakland on Monday night when pro-Trayvon Martin protesters attacked a local restaurant. The “gruesome” description is specifically referring to the part where a waiter at that restaurant stood up to one of the protesters and was pummeled in the face with a hammer-like object because of it. “Protesters with black masks approached the window and tried to bang at it,” bartender Phillip Ricafort told the Oakland Tribune. “(The waiter) said, ‘Don’t do that!’ and the guy turned around and smacked him in the face with a hammer.”

A man who says he was jogging alongside of a road when three black men abducted and beat him claims the alleged attack was in retaliation for George Zimmerman’s acquittal, police in Senatobia, Miss. told Fox News. Police Chief Steve Holts told Fox News the alleged victim, who is white, was jogging Sunday night along Highway 51 when, he said, the suspects pulled over and ordered him to get inside their car. “One of them asked, ‘Do you know who Trayvon Martin was?’” Holts quoted the man as saying. At that point, the men in the vehicle allegedly attacked him.

Nancy Grace is being accused of using racist language Tuesday in describing George Zimmerman’s freedom, saying he’s “driving through Taco Bell every night having a churro,” after the neighborhood community watchman was acquitted of murder charges in the Trayvon Martin shooting.
