Former Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe (D) reportedly said on Monday that he will not go on an “apology tour” for being a successful white man if he decides to run for president. According to the Richmond Times-Dispatch, McAuliffe, who said he would make his 2020 decision by March 31, told conservative radio host John Fredericks that he is “very close” to making a 2020 decision, saying he is still “going through the process” and will “have a decision shortly.”

Democrat Terry McAuliffe said he would be the party's best choice to "take on" President Donald Trump in 2020. "Who better to take on Trump than me?" McAuliffe said when asked by the Washington Free Beacon about a potential 2020 run for president, strongly indicating he will indeed throw his hat in the ring.

Under the caveat that anything can happen in politics nowadays, Axios CEO and co-founder Jim VandeHei said Friday he could see Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe as a Democratic presidential candidate in 2020. "If I had to put money from my own pocket on a candidate right now, it would be on Terry McAuliffe of Virginia," said VandeHei who helped launch Axios in January after leaving Politico, which he also co-founded and turned into a political powerhouse. Axios has quickly gained a reputation as a place for Washington-related scoops.
