In the running-around-with-their-hair-on-fire department, the Congressional Democrats just topped themselves with yesterday’s bizarre testimony of convicted felon John Dean before the House Judiciary Committee. Students of history may recall that Dean served in the Nixon White House as Counsel to the President and pled guilty in 1974 to obstruction of justice for his role in covering up the ties between Nixon’s Committee to Re-Elect the President and the Watergate burglary. Since then, Dean has become a CNN commentator.

Powerful and well funded, 1199 SEIU has unprecedented reach into city and state government. ... Medicaid is one of the primary sources of funding for the hospitals employing workers from 1199 SEIU, the powerful hospital and nursing-home employees’ union. ... The union’s clout can be assessed by several measures: the sheer size of its membership, its spending on campaigns and lobbying, and the depth and breadth of its connections with New York’s ruling elite. With well over 300,000 members in Massachusetts, Maryland, Florida, Washington, D.C., and New York (where over half of that total resides), 1199SEIU is the largest union...

Sometimes the idea of a thing is much better than the thing itself. Take the Titanic, for example, or Hillary Clinton’s campaign for president. During the all-important conceptual phase, both benefited from an aura of invincibility — which is a great thing to have, until you meet your iceberg. Before dismissing this as mere partisanship, please note that two years ago I unequivocally declared Secretary Clinton to be the winner of the 2012 elections. Departing the Obama administration on her own terms, her position within the Democratic party was at its peak. To her credit, she used that standing to...
  • Hillary Clinton: Congenital Rule-Breaker.

Hillary Clinton doesn't play by the rules. That's not a partisan attack. It's not a talking point. It's not a fantasy. It's a fact—an agonizing truth to people like me who admire Clinton and her husband, who remember how Bill Clinton rose from a backwater governorship to the presidency on a simple promise: He would fight for people who "work hard and play by the rules." The evidence is overwhelming and metastasizing: To co-opt a William Safire line, Hillary Clinton is a congenital rule-breaker. "More than 180 Clinton Foundation donors lobbied her State Department." "That's not illegal," writes Vox reporter...

NEW YORK A New York landlord has been found guilty of hiring hit men to force two brothers out of their rent-controlled apartment so he could more than triple the rent. The landlord was found guilty yesterday of first-degree attempted murder and assault, conspiracy and burglary. Prosecutors said he wanted to oust the two from their three-bedroom apartment in Queens so he could raise the rent from 400 dollars a-month to 15-hundred dollars. They say he hired two tenants of the building to attack the men. The brothers survived but suffered disfiguring injuries. The landlord's attorney argued he hired the...
