Nicki Minaj, the first female solo artist to have seven singles on the Billboard Hot 100 list at the same time, announced today the first set of dates for her “Pink Friday” concert tour. The 29-year-old Trinidad-born rapper, who now makes New York City her home, is perhaps best known for the bump and grind she performed this past February while sharing the stage with Madonna during the Super Bowl half time show. She was no less provocative last month in an appearance on ABC’s “Nightline” when she said that she contemplated killing her father when she was younger. In...

I recently started hearing a piece of music on the 'Air 1" radio network, and I thought I'd share it with all of you fine folks on Free Republic. In recent days, we've had a lot of discouragement. Between the economy, gas prices, unemployment, and politicians who are either clueless or intentionally trying to destroy the country...it's easy to get depressed. I heard this song not too long ago called "We Won't Give Up" by a Christian rock group called The Afters. They said they wrote it as kind of a "sports style" song, the kind one might play to...

Earlier this year, I was eating at a rib joint in Fort Myers Florida. There was a country and western song playing over the restaurant's Muzak system. I can't give you any specific lyrics but I believe the song was called "Carolina" or "Oh Carolina". If nothing else, the song had the word "Carolina" in it. The song was more upbeat and fast - near as I can remember. I've checked around on the Internet (search engines and Youtube) but can't find what I'm looking for. I'd appreciate any suggestions or recommendations as to what this song may have been....

I haven't been to church since I don't remember when Things were going great til they fell apart again So I listened to the preacher as he told me what to do He said you can't go hatin' others who have done wrong to you Sometimes we get angry but we must not condemn Let the good Lord do his job, you just pray for them I pray your brakes go out runnin' down a hill I pray a flower pot falls from a window sill And knocks you in the head like I'd like to I pray your birthday...

Heavenly Father, it’s in the name of Jesus I pray He is the way- for His sake, please receive what I say First things first, blessed be Your holy name There’s none like You, You stand alone and you reign Lord, You know my frame, You remember that I’m dust Jesus, who overcame- it’s in Him I put my trust No confidence in the flesh, it’s obvious I’m a mess No doubt, much more a mess than what I can see manifest I confess that I daily fall short of Your glory I’ve failed so many times- my sin’s always...

Last year I heard this aging country singer on a small stage. He sang a song that struck home about a wayward son that was in some trouble. I don't know the name of the song, but it was one of his first. As he went to assist his troubled son, he appealed saying "He's a part of me, he's one of mine." or some such. I would very much like to know the name of that song so I could make the purchase or download. I have looked for the song title and checked lyrics but can't locate it....

When Sally's mother learned her daughter was to be temporarily suspended from her church school, she was shattered. Her... 12-year-old daughter had never been in trouble before. ... The school had discovered an obscene, pornographic poem Sally had written with a classmate - and then posted... on the school intranet.... 'Sally's teacher... said it suggested such inappropriate sexual knowledge that the headmistress was considering calling in Social Services to investigate whether [the] daughter had been sexually abused.... But the subsequent school investigation uncovered that the poem... was, in fact, Sally's attempt to write a pop song, and every word had...

"When we FACE UP to the majesty of God, we will find ourselves FACEDOWN in worship." -- Matt Redman Facedown - Matt Redman Verse 1: Welcomed in to the courts of the King/ I've been ushered into your presence/ Lord I stand on your merciful ground/ Yet with every step tread with reverence Chorus: And I'll fall facedown As your glory shines around Yes I'll fall facedown As your glory shines around Verse 2: Who is there in the heavens like you/ And upon the earth who's your equal/ You are far above you're the highest of heights/ We are...

Take My Life and Let it Be - FranÂces R. HaÂverÂgal, FebÂruÂaÂry 1874. Take my life, and let it be consecrated, Lord, to Thee. Take my moments and my days; let them flow in ceaseless praise. Take my hands, and let them move at the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet, and let them be swift and beautiful for Thee. Â Take my voice, and let me sing always, only, for my King. Take my lips, and let them be filled with messages from Thee. Take my silver and my gold; not a mite would I withhold. Take my...

I Need Thee Every Hour – Annie S. Hawks, 1872 I need Thee every hour, most gracious Lord; No tender voice like Thine can peace afford. Refrain I need Thee, O I need Thee; Every hour I need Thee; O bless me now, my Savior, I come to Thee. I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby; Temptations lose their power when Thou art nigh. Refrain I need Thee every hour, in joy or pain; Come quickly and abide, or life is in vain. Refrain I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will; And Thy rich promises in me...

Methinks JCM's Small Towns should be the campaign theme song for McCain. Well I was born in a small town And I live in a small town Prob'ly die in a small town Oh, those small communities All my friends are so small town My parents live in the same small town My job is so small town Provides little opportunity Educated in a small town Taught the fear of Jesus in a small town Used to daydream in that small town Another boring romantic that's me But I've seen it all in a small town Had myself a ball...

Maybe Sting should start writing more instrumentals. The school teacher-turned-rock star topped Blender's list of the worst lyricists, thanks to lines that betray "mountainous pomposity (and) cloying spirituality," the music magazine said. The survey, contained in the November issue that hits newsstands next week, placed Rush drummer Neil Peart at No. 2, Creed frontman Scott Stapp at No. 3, Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher at No. 4, and soft-rocker Dan Fogelberg at No. 5. Blender assailed Sting for such alleged sins as name-dropping Russian novelist Vladimir Nabokov in the Police tune "Don't Stand So Close to Me," quoting a Volvo bumper...

Mark Steyn: A music book that's not muzak - Wilfrid Sheed's 'The House That George Built' moves from one memorable riff to another MARK STEYN | September 10, 2007 | "You can't receive all your inspiration from listening to old records," writes Wilfrid Sheed. "It's like receiving your fresh air in cans." I know what he means. Today, in 2007, we understand that It Had To Be You and The Way You Look Tonight and My Funny Valentine are great songs. They've been declared to be so, over and over. But I wonder if we'd have figured it out at...

NEW YORK — The Reverend Al Sharpton led a demonstration across Manhattan Thursday evening (May 3) that saw him and throng of supporters march to three of the four major record companies, calling for more "decency" in hip-hop lyrics. (Watch a video timeline of hip-hop under fire over the years, right here.) The march was in part a response to comments made by fired shock jock Don Imus, who claimed if his controversial remarks were made by a rapper it'd result in a hit song. Sharpton confronted Imus over his remarks on his own radio program, "The Sharpton Show," and...

SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo Inc. is expanding its online music section to include the lyrics of 400,000 songs, hoping to strike a chord with Web surfers looking for a more reliable alternative to Internet sites that publish the words without the permission of the copyright owners. The Sunnyvale-based company is touting the free service to be unveiled Tuesday as the Web’s largest legally licensed database of lyrics.“It fills a huge, gaping hole out there,” said Ian Rogers, general manager of Yahoo music. Song lyrics have been available through scores of other Web sites for years, but most of those destinations are...

At PlayOnLyrics we like to play around with misheard lyrics. Occasionally, however, you wish you had misheard a lyric, or can’t believe what you just heard. Back in the day, one time Tonight Show host and hack musician Steve Allen used to read out lyrics from popular songs just to make fun of young musicians. That used to bug us. Taking lyrics out of context can be a distasteful and irrelevant exercise by the smug and untalented. After all, “The Doo Ron Ron†is a great song about nothing. But, sometimes lyrics are just so bad you just have to...
