The day Gil Levin says he detected life on Mars, he was waiting in his lab at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, watching a piece of paper inch out of a printer. Levin snatched the sheet and scrutinized the freshly inked graph. A thin line measuring radioactive carbon crept steadily upward, just as it always did when Levin performed the test with microbes on Earth. But this data came from tens of millions of miles away, where NASA's Viking lander was — for the first time in history — conducting an experiment on the surface of Mars. "Gil, that's life,"...

A report posted on UFO Sightings Daily claims that life has been discovered on Mars. The report talks about finding a rat like Creature in one of the photos posted in official NASA website. The photo was sent by the Mars Rover. The website, UFO Sightings Daily, is coordinated by Scott C. Waring. He had been affiliated with the United States Air Force at SAC base (USAF flight line). He currently owns an ESL School in Taiwan. In this report, Scott has published images of the creature, taken from official NASA website, along with a video of the creature posted...

After a year roaming the surface of Mars, NASA has failed to find any evidence that its atmosphere is supporting life, it was revealed today. The Curiosity rover currently scanning the Red Planet has not detected any methane, a gas that is produced by living things. Since landing in Gale Crater last year, every morning and evening the car-size probe has analyzed Mars’ air and scanned it with a tiny laser in search of the greenhouse gas. Not finding it means that it is unlikely that microbes capable of producing the gas are living below the planet’s surface, scientists said...

LOS ANGELES - As NASA (news - web sites)'s Mars rovers keep rolling past all expectations of their useful lives, scientists have a happy mystery: For some reason one of the vehicles has actually gained power recently. Opportunity recently experienced an unexplained rejuvenation from what can so far be described only as two or three significant "cleaning events," said Jim Erickson, the rover project manager at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena. "Now we're assuming they're cleaning, but all we can really say is that overnight the solar panels produced between 2 and 5 percent additional power immediately," he said....

DENVER, COLORADO -- A future astronaut traipsing across the landing sites of the Mars Exploration Rovers – Spirit and Opportunity – might be squishing into a welcome mat of microbes, according to one NASA scientist. ... Unfolding saga ... The observations... strongly suggested primitive life may have existed on Mars more than 3.6 billion years ago. ... Microbial mat ... The Mars rovers represent an incredibly successful mission, McKay said. Moreover, they seemingly have "uncovered" a major find. He points to pictures taken by the rovers that show areas of the martian surface disturbed by the retraction of landing airbags....

This may be the last Christmas it is possible to celebrate confident in the assumption that life is unique to planet Earth, that therefore human beings with their consciousness, intelligence and moral sensibility are the culmination of creation, and that thus they enjoy a special relationship with their creator. All going well, on Christmas Day a probe aboard the first European mission to Mars will touch down on the Red Planet and begin searching for what scientists call "signatures of life". The probe, Beagle 2, will measure the ratio of different types of carbon found in Martian rocks. As explained...

Note from planetary scientist Pascal Lee with regard to an announcement made yesterday at NASA headquarters regarding a possible origin for gullies observed on Mars. "The spacecraft data discussed by Phil Christensen is new and beautiful, but the interpretation of the martian gullies as resulting from the melting of snow and ice patches in response to obliquity (tilt) variations of Mars on timescales of 100,000 years or so is something my colleagues and I have proposed and published for the past three years. Our model was proposed on the basis of terrestrial analog field studies we have conducted on Devon...
