Effortless lying just comes easier to some of us, it seems. Here's now-infamous Obama Deputy Campaign Manager Stephanie Cutter on CNN, earlier this week Stephanie Cutter on Piers Morgan MORGAN: "You have already indicated again that you don't really believe it will be a $5 trillion tax cut." CUTTER: “No. What I have indicated was he has a $5 trillion tax cut.” Sigh. Let's go to the video tape. Same woman, same network, last week: Obama Campaign Concedes Their 5 Trillion Attack Is Not True BURNETT: But when he closes deductions he won’t be anywhere near $5 trillion. That’s our...

Talk show pioneer. Best selling author. Incredibly successful business woman. Actress. Philanthropist. Billionaire. "Most influential woman in the world." Oprah Winfrey, the King Midas of her day, is ending her 25-year, multi-award-winning talk show this May, signaling the end of a staple in 21st century television. But amid all the fawning retrospectives and misty tributes, it's important to remember just who Oprah is, the biased viewpoint she represents and the damage she's done to popular culture.

In her vital and fascinating new book, "The Forgotten Man: A New History of the Great Depression," Amity Shlaes tells a story about national icon President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. Shortly after FDR took office, Shlaes explains, he began arbitrarily tinkering with the price of gold. "One day he would move the price up several cents; another, a few more," writes Shlaes. One particular morning, Shlaes relates, FDR informed his "brain trust" that he was considering raising the price of gold by 21 cents. His advisers asked why 21 cents was the appropriate figure. "It's a lucky number," stated Roosevelt, "because...

It seems clear Rudy Giuliani is going to run for president. What isn't clear is whether he has any chance of winning the Republican nomination. Some, like RCP's own Ryan Sager, have been pointing to early horserace polls and other anecdotal evidence, assiduously trying to deconstruct the conventional wisdom that says Giuliani's positions on social issues will doom him with conservative base voters. That debate, however, isn't likely to be settled any time soon, and the truth of the matter is that it's Giuliani's position on other issues that may end up disqualifying him with many Republicans. Set aside for...

The Bureau of Labor Statistics recently re-benchmarked the payroll jobs data back to 2000. Thanks to Charles McMillion of MBG Information Services, I have the adjusted data from January 2001 through January 2006. If you are worried about terrorists, you don’t know what worry is. Job growth over the last five years is the weakest on record. The U.S. economy was more than 7 million jobs short of keeping up with population growth. That’s one good reason for controlling immigration. An economy that cannot keep up with population growth should not be boosting population with heavy rates of legal and...

Just caught this at the end...Pelosi was being interview live on CNN, and she was spewing about the Bush failures..The CNN anchor was asking a few tough questions, interupting Pelosi, not letting the wild charges be go unchallenged, when Pelois, obviously annoyed, said "Well, why don't you quit your job ( at CNN) and got to work for the Bush White House?"

Poison Pen: The Unauthorized Biography of Kitty Kelley by George Carpozi Jr. Barricade Books, Incorporated, 1991. 368 pages, illustrated. READER REVIEW Kitty Kelley must have never heard the old aphorism, "don't dish it out, if you can't take it" because this unauthorized biography caused her considerable well publicized consternation. Her response is certainly understandable because the referenced source materials certainly surpass the innuendo and outright sophistry of her books, and the charges against her are severe. From shoplifting to rampant dishonesty (that allegation should cause little surprise among those familiar with her work), to uninhibited sexual hi-jinks, Carpozi throws it...
