GAINESVILLE Florida's Board of Governors voted 10-3 today to reject a proposed chiropractic school at Florida State University that was sought by powerful lawmakers, but vehemently opposed by some FSU medical faculty. The board did not agree there was a need to create the nation's first chiropractic school at a public university, especially when state funding is so scarce and it could damage the school's reputation. The project has been embroiled in controversy since last year when state lawmakers put $9 million in the state budget for a school. Instead it was a pet project for then Senate President Jim...

HARRISBURG, PA – U.S. Rep. Pat Toomey (R-PA) today issued the following statement regarding John Kerry’s campaign travel to Pennsylvania: “John Kerry talks a lot about lowering the cost of health care, but his record doesn’t show a lot of action. Kerry opposed medical liability reform that would curb frivolous lawsuits costing Americans as much as $108 billion each year and work to keep doctor’s practicing in Pennsylvania – now classified as a ‘crisis’ state by the American Medical Association. “John Kerry also talks about growing the economy, but Pennsylvanians know his plans for higher taxes and increased government spending...

"John Kerry has repeatedly opposed efforts to limit the medical liability lawsuits that raise health care costs by as much as $108 billion dollars each year. Instead of working to lower health care costs for families, Kerry has proposed raising taxes to pay for a government-run health care program that shifts costs to taxpayers while empowering bureaucrats in Washington. Kerry should start taking the side of patients and doctors rather than the trial lawyers who have given him more money than any senator over the past 15 years." - Steve Schmidt, Bush-Cheney '04 Spokesman Kerry Opposes Medical Liability Reform...
