On Tuesday, the Sheboygan Press reported that according to two veteran GOP consultants that talk radio and campaign cash were to blame for State Senator Joe Leibham’s narrow defeat in the 6th Congressional District Republican primary. Jason Smathers, the author of the article, said: “But with two other state legislators running to his right, those advantages disappeared. Leibham played defense most of the race. It was just announced on Milwaukee's WISN radio that State Senator Joe Leibham of Sheboygan will NOT ask for a recount of the August 12 Primary election, thereby leaving State Senator Glenn Grothman as the Republican nominee for the seat left vacant by the retiring Rep. Tom Petri. No word yet on the final vote count. Glenn will be a great Congressman.

FOND DU LAC – 1,259 absentee ballots remain outstanding according to election officials in the 6th Congressional District. Wisconsin Election Watch obtained outstanding absentee ballot data from clerks via their website or on the telephone on Thursday. The Sheboygan Press initially reported on Wednesday that there 1,500 absentee ballots outstanding. A Sheboygan gas station owner is baffled after a mystery caller tells a clerk it's a bad idea to do business with a Sheboygan-area state senator. It started Tuesday when a woman called Dick Hiers's Northeast Standard gas station after she thought she saw Senator Joe Leibham there. Her call was caught on the answering machine.
