“Math equity” doesn’t mean 1 + 1 = 2. The term refers to the growing insistence among educators that teaching math in the classroom comes with some inherently biased methodology that must be addressed. Proponents of “math equity” also stress the importance of social justice issues such as race, diversity and gender in math education — a trend that’s catching on. More professors and educators are tweeting under the hashtag #MathEquity to share strategies on the topic, and webinars and other pedagogical sessions on it abound.

In the wake the landmark $44 million verdict against Oberlin College for defaming a 5-generation family business, information is coming to light about the behavior of students and administrators at that once-respectable institution that is simply appalling. As throughout the entire story, Legal Insurrection is owed a huge thank-you for its deep dive into the evidence.

The jury just rendered its verdict on punitive damages in the Gibson’s Bakery v. Oberlin College case. Daniel McGraw, our reporter in the courtroom, reports that in addition to the $11.2 million compensatory damages awarded last Friday, the jury awarded a total of $33 million in punitive damages, which will probably be reduced by the court to $22 million because of the state law cap at twice compensatory (it’s not an absolute cap, but probably will apply here). That brings the total damages to $33 million. We will have the breakdown soon. The jury also awarded attorney’s fees, to be...

A new survey of college students by the liberal-leaning Knight Foundation shows the future of the First Amendment doesn't look so bright in America. It found 41 percent said "hate speech" should not be protected by the Constitution. Only 58 percent thought it should. In fact, a 2017 survey out of UCLA found that out of 1,500 college students who were asked whether "hate speech" is protected by the First Amendment, only 39 percent correctly said yes. On campus today, it can be defined as "unsafe" to hear an opinion you don't like. Unwelcome speech is compared to a physical...

Students at Hofstra University are demanding the school remove a Thomas Jefferson statue. The group included other demands as well, including "mandated, comprehensive, cultural competency training.” Students at Hofstra University protested a statue of Thomas Jefferson on Friday at the second annual event, titled “Jefferson Has Gotta Go!” The statue has been the center of controversy on the campus and has been defaced with “DECOLONIZE” and “Black Lives Matter” signs and stickers. According to a media advisory sent by the Jefferson Has Gotta Go (JGG) campaign, the protest was held at Hofstra Breslin Hall. Organizers included “students of Hofstra University,...

A San Francisco school district may remove an 83-year-old mural of President George Washington from, ironically, George Washington High School because it “traumatizes students and community members.” The work of artist Victor Arnautoff, a communist, may no longer be progressive enough for “Fog City.” His 13 panels for the high school, created in 1936, have been deemed problematic by the San Francisco Unified School District. Officials say some the artist’s historical depictions are offensive to Native Americans and blacks. Laura Dudnick, a spokeswoman for the district, told educational watchdog the College Fix via email Thursday that Mr. Arnautoff’s work was...

School teachers are the largest single occupational group contributing to socialist Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign. As Breitbart notes, “A disproportionate number of those to whom we have entrusted the task of passing our values on to the next generation disagree with those values and would prefer a “revolution.” So many school teachers in North Carolina joined Marxist May Day protests organized by #RedforEd, the four largest school districts shut down for the day. #RedforEd talks about hirer [sic] wages and Medicare for all. They pretend to be bi-partisan. They are anything but mainstream: A well-funded and subversive leftist movement of...

Union College president David R. Harris penned an op-ed, entitled, “A Campus Is Not the Place for Free Speech,” in which he argues that it is the role of colleges and universities to filter the conversations on campuses to provide “constructive engagement.”

by Jenn Carter Last week gave us a stark reminder of how many public schools in America are loyal propaganda centers for the far-left. That is the case even in a relatively conservative locale like Suffolk County in Long Island, NY -- which unlike NYC went for Trump in 2016 with 53% of the vote. In the working class town of Lake Ronkonkoma, Bella Moscato's 6th grade class was given an assignment: wtire a report and give a presentation on "your hero." For 11-year old Bella, this was a no-brainer: her hero was Donald J. Trump. For her teacher,...

Shortened title. Full title: Over Parent Objections, Public School Teaches 6-Year-Olds About ‘Transgender Ravens’ And Gender Fluidity Despite parent attempts to opt children as young as five out of presentations telling them traditional gender roles are evil and people can be whatever sex they feel like, a Colorado school district showed the material anyway. Should a six-year-old be taught to use transgendered pronouns and believe in so-called gender fluidity? The leaders of Superior Elementary School in Boulder Valley School District, Colorado, think so. Last November, the school showed children from kindergarten to fifth grade videos from “Queer Kid Stuff” and...

The worst fears of our Founding Fathers have become reality. Two things the founders were unable to protect our great republic from were the evil machinations of corrupt men and an inbred craven citizenry. Thus, both of these illegitimate vagrancies have led America to the very precipice of destruction vis-a-vis the satanic transmogrification of government – a precipice, I might add, President Trump for the moment has spared us from going over. During our Revolutionary War, only 17 percent of the people were supportive of the fight for independence from England. But those 17 percent carried the day until the...

The father of Democratic presidential hopeful Pete Buttigieg was a Marxist professor who spoke fondly of the Communist Manifesto and dedicated a significant portion of his academic career to the work of Italian Communist Party founder Antonio Gramsci, an associate of Vladimir Lenin. Joseph Buttigieg, who died in January at the age of 71, immigrated to the U.S. in the 1970s from Malta and in 1980 joined the University of Notre Dame faculty, where he taught modern European literature and literary theory. He supported an updated version of Marxism that jettisoned some of Marx and Engel's more doctrinaire theories, though...

I’ve read that so many good high schools teachers are leaving teaching because they fear their students, not having any way to discipline kids who just don’t care. Who’s at fault, parents, the “system”, or teachers themselves? Dana Quinney, Retired Biologist Answered Mar 14 · Upvoted by Staci McKinley, M.Ed Teaching & Secondary Teacher Certification in Social Studies, University of North Texas (2021) I quit teaching. This incident was the final straw. A girl in one of my classes was stalking a boy. She threatened him many times. I took great care to seat them far apart. I saw her...

A Turning Point USA activist was brutally assaulted while recruiting at UC Berkeley. Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA posted a shocking video revealing a “leftist thug” cursing at one of their recruiters, then punching the recruiter in the face and walking away. The short video shows a man dressed in a black t shirt and jeans physically assaulting the Turning Point activist, pushing him, knocking his baseball cap off his head, cursing at him repeatedly, and eventually punching him in the face before angrily storming away from the scene. “While recruiting for our @TPUSA Group at UC Berkeley a...

If jolly old Saint Nick were a real person who had a real naughty and nice list, Nebraska school principal Jennifer Sinclair would most definitely be getting nothing but coal in her stocking this year. Sinclair has went on an anti-Christmas rampage, banning candy canes because their “J” shape represents Jesus, the reason for the season. However, that was just the beginning. What kinds of items, you ask? Liberty Counsel provided a memo from principal Jennifer Sinclair that spelled out in detail all the verboten paraphernalia at Manchester Elementary School in Omaha: Santas or Christmas items (clip art) on worksheets...
