Najim Laachraoui cleared background checks before taking janitorial job at the Parliament building in 2009. One of the terrorists involved in Brussels's Zaventem Airport bombing worked briefly as a janitor at the European Parliament, the Parliament stated Wednesday night. "He held a summer holiday job cleaning at the Parliament for one month in 2009 and one month in 2010. Those were the only instances he worked at the Parliament," it said in a statement. "As required by the contract, the cleaning firm submitted proof of the absence of a criminal record to the European Parliament."

Brussels suicide bomber Najim Laachraoui, a veteran Islamist fighter in Syria also suspected of making explosive belts for November’s Paris attacks, was a model student in a Brussels Catholic high school, the school’s director told Reuters. Security sources told local media that Laachraoui, a 25-year-old Belgian, was one of Tuesday’s airport suicide bombers, identifying him as one of the three men in the CCTV image released by police. “Najim Laachraoui was a very good student,” said Veronica Pellegrini, the director of the Institut de la Sainte Famille d’Helmet, a Catholic school in the ethnically mixed east Brussels borough of Schaerbeek.

Police in Brussels on Thursday launched a desperate hunt for two men suspected of taking part in the Islamic State bombings that struck at the very heart of Europe. Under-fire Belgian security officials are tracking one man identified at the scene of a suicide attack on the metro, as well as a suspected bomber seen on CCTV footage at Brussels airport. European security authorities faced mounting pressure after it emerged that two brothers who blew themselves up at the airport and on a metro train were known to police and that one of them had been deported from Turkey as...

Belgian brothers Ibrahim and Khalid El Bakraoui have today been named as the two airport suicide bombers who murdered 14 people eight days after escaping a shoot-out with police in Brussels. The third member of the bombing squad - now known as the 'Man in White' - was named as expert bombmaker Najim Laachraoui, who is still on the run after leaving a suitcase packed with explosives and calmly leaving the terminal moments before the massacre at 8am yesterday. Just 79 minutes later a suicide bomber detonated his vest on a Brussels Metro train at Maelbeek station killing 20 people....
