WASHINGTON, Nov 14 (Reuters) - Billionaire Elon Musk, who is an adviser to U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, met with Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations on Monday, the New York Times reported on Thursday.
Citing two Iranian officials, the newspaper reported that the meeting was a discussion of how to defuse tensions between Iran and the United States.

The meeting between Musk and Iran’s envoy Amir Saeid Iravani was held at a secret location in New York and lasted more than an hour, the NYT reported, citing the Iranian officials, who reportedly described the discussion as focused on how to defuse tensions between the two countries.
CNN is reaching out to Musk and Trump’s transition team for comment. Iran’s mission to the UN declined to comment.
“Here are the list of items the US expects the Government of Iran to do before President Trump is sworn in Jan 20th 2025. It would be best for your people that you comply.”
Curious.
I am a Trump supporter BUT see a problem with Musk, unelected, private individual making deals with Iran until he fills his position as US waste manager.
Amazing.
I am a huge Trump supporter and I see it as unusual.
If the enemy had won and bezos was meeting with Iran diplomats..I’d be shocked and not too happy.
But our side won so... :)
I don’t think DJT feels too obligated to honor Musk’s deals if he is making them and not just gathering intel.
Offer to give Iran the UN. In return, accept Israel. Compromise.
I imagine he met the Iranians with Trumps blessing, can’t imagine he’d do that on his own.
“Defuse tensions”? These scumbags are still targeting our troops in Iraq and elsewhere.
Yes very curious.
Yeah l see your point but sometimes things can be done through unofficial channels as this would be. That said, l am uneasy about it as you are.
Take it easy. The NY Times is reporting this. Now if the NY Post had reported a nude Iranian ambassador beheaded in a topless bar, that might be credible. But the NY Times? Pfah.
what deals did he make?
Of course not. The only possible reason I can think of would be coup planning.
This Musk stuff has me a little antsy in my pantsy.
It’s possible Trump might be using Musk as a go-between with Iran for purposes not immediately clear to the public, and this activity might even involve input from Netanyahu. Such indirect diplomacy, involving key players behind the scenes, isn’t unusual and may serve objectives that aren’t obvious at first glance.
“I am a Trump supporter BUT see a problem with Musk, unelected, private individual making deals with Iran until he fills his position as US waste manager.”
I doubt Musk is making any firm deals; even Trump can’t do that until he is sworn in.
Musk has high credibility if for no other reason than he can park a missile inside a one-car garage anywhere in Iran. Musk is another tool in Trump’s toolbox; he will use Musk to shape the diplomatic battlespace.
Well, we know that Elon isn’t doing anything just make himself some more money, like most advisors to government do. He’s also very smart. I trust that whatever he’s doing, it’s for the good of the country.
Good place to cut some spending.
