The host of KPFT's (90.1 FM) "Prison Show" has resigned, citing the Pacifica Radio station's decision to prohibit him from using former talk show host and convicted felon Jon Matthews as his co-host. David Babb, who has hosted the Friday night show since January 2011, said the station is sending the wrong message by not allowing Matthews, who was a prominent, conservative-leaning host on KPRC (950 AM) and KSEV (700 AM) prior to his 2004 guilty plea to charges of indecency with a child, to appear with him on KPFT.

...note on their website tells the story: The power line to the KPFT transmitter tower was cut during the night, most likely by copper bandits. Harris County sheriffs are conducting an investigation at this time. The building housing our transmitter was damaged and must be repaired before the electrical service can be restored. It is possible we may be off-line for the remainder of the day, maybe longer. We are, however, still on in Galveston (yay 89.5!) and available thru our stream at www.kpt.org...

Air America Host Randi Rhodes Mugged By Rogers Cadenhead Watching the Watchers Air America Radio host Randi Rhodes was mugged near her Manhattan apartment Sunday night, losing several teeth in a brutal attack that has knocked her off the air while she recuperates, fellow host Jon Elliott announced on his show early Tuesday morning. "It is with sadness that tonight I inform you that my Air America colleague Randi Rhodes was assaulted last night while walking her dog near her New York City home," Elliott told his listeners this morning on Air America. The attack took place near the corner...

Staffers look for clues in drive-by at KPFT No one was injured and there have been no arrests in the incident at Houston radio station Staffers look for clues in drive-by at KPFT No one was injured and there have been no arrests in the incident at Houston radio station A bullet hole in a window, an odd-caliber shell casing found in the street and the shadowy sighting of a slow-moving white car — that was all KPFT-FM staffers had to go on Monday as they searched for clues that might explain the early-morning drive-by shooting at their Montrose studio....

A bullet blasted through a Plexiglas window at KPFT radio early this morning, missing a woman's head by about 18 inches, said general manager Duane Bradley. The bullet was fired while another staff member was talking to three people at the station's front door, about 12 feet from the smashed window, Bradley said. The station is located in the 400 block of Lovett. No one was injured in the shooting, Bradley said. Bradley said the sometimes-controversial station airs blues, folk and other types of music as well as "alternative" programming about gay and lesbian issues and a program geared toward...

Further Poisoning The Well Media Bias In the Wake of the Tel Aviv Bombing Late Monday night, in the wake of the suicide bombing in Tel Aviv, I tuned to first CNN then CNN International. While both CNN networks had covered the terror attack earlier in the day their news crawl at the bottom of the screen no longer mentioned it. Instead the Israeli missile attack on Gaza City was mentioned. The fact that nobody was killed or injured in Gaza was conveniently ignored. The bombing in Tel Aviv, which killed nine innocent people at a falafel stand and injured...

Two sides of the dial tackle war Talk radio stations air opposing views By ALLAN TURNER Copyright 2003 Houston Chronicle It's hard to think of Montrose's somnolent, tree-lined Lovett Boulevard as a political war zone. But with the United States eyeball-to-eyeball with Iraq, the street has become Houston's ideological ground zero -- home to radio stations that have become broadcast bastions for the pacifist left and the hawkish right. Separated by less than a city block, KPFT-FM, a listener-supported champion of "progressive" causes, and KPRC-AM, a heavyweight of right-wing talk programming, have marshalled thousands for rallies and marches that aired...

In Houston, listener-sponsored Pacifica radio station KPFT (90.1 FM), said it would play the Dixie Chicks now more than ever. "I just heard about it an hour ago from a caller who said there is some kind of boycott against the Dixie Chicks," said Wendy Schroell, KPFT administrative assistant. "That is the craziest thing I have ever heard. We are going to be playing them all the time.
